  • What exactly is it that y'all are looking for him to say? I hear this criticism a lot, as someone who values the sound of music and the bars, I am curious what people who say this are wanting to be the topics/subject matter of a 2024 Drake project.

FATD was an album dedicated to petty-dissing all the women in his life

its weird and only decipherable if you have a parasocial relationship to him

He can rap skilfully but his subject matters soulless and he makes music for younger people who grew up on s***tier music

Plus his rnb vocals are wack compared to his come up

Drake has legitimate subject matter that is an accurate reflection of the life he lives.

The problem is he has stretched that subject matter over the course of 15 years and in the last 4 years specifically has dropped 6 f***ing times talking about the same s***. And that's not even to mention he's still on every 4th feature talking about the same s***.

It's not that he's not saying something it's that he's saying the same s*** we've heard from him a million times before and it is so stale and tired to the point that it feels like nothing.

That was a couple of tracks which would seem to fit the albums theme anyways. But if you don't like that subject matter that's fine, that doesn't answer the question posed in OP though.

What would you prefer an artist to rap about if not a reflection of the life they live?

Facts. No way anyone said Drake isn't saying anything and actually listened. This was his most personal album since IYRTITL

I would prefer drake if didn't drown us with output and if he'd instead spend more time between releases curating a concise and cohesive body of work that creates a real moment in music and culture.

Everyone's lives are different. If his life is empty, but he's rapping about it, he's still telling HIS story. That's where I get mixed up when people say he raps about nothing but then turn around and say he raps about something, just his life isn't relatable to their own.

it’s about something but there was a tangible sense of character progression from album to album until Views or so that we don’t see anymore, with the exception of More Life the 2016-2022 period was extra stale when it came to subject matter

Her Loss and FATD saw him kinda embrace a personal narrative again and i think were a lot more interesting for it

Nah that’s exactly what I was trying to say. He’s rapping about his life, it’s just that his life is actually that empty

That's fair. But irregardless of the length of break would you not agree him rapping about his life will remain as soulless unless he changes his lifestyle just so he has something more 'intriguing' to rap about?
