Is that question rhetorical cause it absolutely reads like it was

There's nothing "fake" about the inherent individual 1 of 1 item if you make it so.

On the internet we copy everything, from MP3s, to JPEGs, to words.

If you can't grasp why having scarcity on the internet is valuable, ok.. Maybe this stuff just isn't for you

No I cant grasp it. Whats wrong with copying? It‘s great I can just see a picture or painting or anything and save it on my phone.

You can now directly support artists without having to deal with companies as middlemen taking a cut

If you willingly love stealing music and enjoy knowing that Spotify and other gatekeepers don't, ok..

    But are you brainwashed?

You're basically just dismissing the entirety of art as a medium, on a Kanye West site

Yes, I'm sure you saving a picture of a Basquiat painting is the same thing as having the real thing.

And I'm sure you'll also get tons of art hoe p**** when you bust out your Iphone 8 and show her your "art" you "saved" off the internet vs someone who has the actual painting

This s*** on the level of counter strike skins

Yes it's on the level of counter strike skins if you actually owned the skin yourself. And if you could use the skin in Fortnite too because YOU own the skin's digital rights and it's interoperable between games because Valve doesn't control the actual intellectual property

So it's like CS GO skins if you didn't just give Valve your money so you could feel cool with your dumbass steam friends or w/e you zoomers do together

NFTs are not a scam, but you are f***ing delusional if you think it supports the artists or is the future of creation.

It is no f***ing different from Wall Street and any other stock market. Emotionless investments from people with money made to double, triple, quadruple one's profits. No one except the artist cares about the art.

There is no real support or even demand for independent artists. Only people who generate these stupid PFP avatar collections and create artificial demand.

    That's false

superrare.com & foundation.app are 2 great examples of platforms that cater exclusively to real independent and commercial artists

The PFP plague is mainly just so loud due to Opensea's rise

@MusicBot can attest to the lifechanging aspects of NFTs for independent artists for a reference as well

The real problem is the stigma from some of these people who think they are still "above" it when they'd be surprised how welcoming these communities really are in supporting independent art

Someone posted about crypto back in 2017 on KTT and changed a lot of peoples lives on here, so some of you should care if you're looking to make some money. Plenty of opportunities still out there for the open minded

Bro. i MAKE nfts. I sell them.

I have had more than a few months experience in this market, I sell on OpenSea, Rarible, Foundation and Known Origin.

It still doesn't change my opinion on what the true nature of this market is.

It is an emotionless investment scheme by people who pretend to care about artists, which leads to these artists creating the assets for these vultures to trade in.

Yes the buy side is driven by profits, but if you are actually involved, continue to build your brand. Continue to NETWORK with the people you respect, join the DAOs you think align with your personal vision, and you will be rewarded in the next 2 years as these communities turn from hobbies to actual business models and companies

There are incredibly talented people entering this space. The brain drain from traditional finance, technology and traditional art worlds will be a very interesting combination for the future of media

Yes crypto is driven by irrational greed, I hate it too. But you just have to use these things to your advantage. The market is the market, you can't hate it, just accept it.

And would you say, that this has been a net positive experience as you have learned to navigate this s***? Your knowledge will only continue to compound with experience. You have a leg up on people every day that passes

Until NFTs and crypto get waaaay better for the environment I want nothing to do with them

There's also something inherently alienating about digital non-tangible art, you don't have the same bragging rights as actual real-world ownership, owning an NFT is not impressive, and showing your social status is a huge driver in the art market. Most people into NFT art are STEM nerds who have never gotten into art before, NFT art for the most part only has value within those circles and I can't see that value doing anything but diminishing over time because these people don't actually care about art and have no eye for what proper collectors would invest money into

So far it's either sterile CGI creations, punks which anyone can see are a fad, or celebrities dropping in for some quick cash

It's good for artists but I don't think it will be for long, the nerds buying the art only see it as an asset to flip, and once it becomes clear that most won't see any kind of return on their investment, they'll stop buying, nobody gains anything from 'owning' NFT art, nobody's impressed by it, I can't see it becoming sustainable

Isn’t that a poor comparison tho? Yes someone would be more impressed at me having a basquiat original hanging on my wall vs having a saved image on my phone, but would someone be more impressed at me having that image saved on my phone with a digital receipt?

No, he conveniently left out the fact that no one will be able to tell or care that you have the official receipt of a digital item
