Except you did. Gil scott wasnt positive but moreso real af.

We had loads of sad love songs.

The difference was niggas back then understood there was such thing as multiple pieces of a person so you were able to write about the good AND the bad. Niggas can’t write about the former now.

From the pov of a writing ass nigga, it is 1000x easy to write from a cynical/negative standpoint. To speak positive means hope/possibly having to visualize a thought you havent even manifested/seen in your real life (versus relying on trauma you already went through to power your negativity/cynicism writing)

And lot of niggas aint built like that.

Niggas wouldn’t classify stuff like this as positive today.

When niggas say positive music in the context of 2024 they’re talking about music like Ice spice or the latest Drake banger.

also positive s*** just doesnt sell like negative s***. people would rather ruminate in their suffering than manifest a better reality and be optimistic

Also it’s usually aimed at teenagers who are usually dramatic afffff. So it sells!

I don’t think it’s positive. I’m just saying when people talk about positive music in 2024 that’s the type of s*** they’re talking about. Just “fun music”

If a song like someday we’ll all be free came out today it wouldn’t be called positive because it’s not a party song
