It makes absolutely no sense to me that up until this point, essentially every single commercially successful (or even just label-backed in general) female rapper uses this same super aggressive, loud, outdated sounding flow (the Cardi, Nicki, Meg, etc).

Do labels think that female artists need to compensate for being female by being all brash and loud and aggressive?? I really look forward to when a wider audience embraces more diverse, creative sounds from female artists doing their own thing, as I think that's when we'll finally start to see female artists gaining more popularity with a lot of core hip-hop fans (as opposed to the more casual mainstream fans that they currently find success with) that aren't interested in the current offerings being shoved down our throats by labels once we start to see a larger rise (or at least embrace of, they certainly exist) in female rappers with unique sounds.

Seriously don't understand how someone like this isn't getting attention Having female rappers like this in the wider eye would inspire a whole generation of female rappers to come that develop more unique, inspired artistic direction (imo)

this topic pisses me off. you think of someone like rapsody who deserves their dues who’s got bars, but these same trash female spitters be dominating mainstream hip hop and poster rappers for women.

at least rnb/alternative isn’t as bad from a female perspective but even then... kelela, solange, etc hardly talked about by the masses. man it infuriates me

The "loud aggressive female rapper" is the female equal to the current wave of Male Rappers

Act Up by City Girls was one of the biggest hits within the Culture of the past couple years. City Girls and Meg both had to do with the development of the City Boyz, Hot Girl Summer, and Hot Girls vs City Boyz meme last Summer.

The same way Male Rap fans like ignorant s*** over conscious s***, Females are the same way. Most of them probably view Rapsody, Noname, etc. types of rappers as pretentious and try hard as Male Rap fans look at Joyner, Logic, etc.

Ignorant s*** and S***Appeal sells at the end of the day, regardless of gender.

Rapsody’s been vocal about wanting more women to rock with her music. Women love the Megs/Cardis/City Girls the same way that dudes in the suburbs love street rap. Can’t twerk to Rapsody/Noname/Tierra Whack. Meg can rap tho

  • all types of music ain't for everybody.
and definitely ain't meant to sell well either.

some music is not intended to be made for mass appeal i agree, but op has a point that we can understand as music fans. industry plants and certain demographics being appealed to is what gives you the push in to the mainstream, but when you see topics being talked about all the time like ‘rnb is dead’, or ‘hip hop is dead’ it’s annoying af purely because the true talent rarely gets its dues these days

This is how woman see themselves

they're delusional, hyper sexual, material obsessed and have zero foresight... so nicki's music speaks to them.

This is like asking why "the industry" isn't trying to sell the hood classical music.

But it's really not at all the female equal to the current wave of male rappers.. it's the female equivalent to the male wave like 10 years ago.

My main point (which I guess i didnt explicitly say in OP) is that hip-hop overall has completely shifted to this more melodic, smooth sound that now dominates (and it's been clear for a few years now that this sound would become the dominant sound, as it now has), so why aren't female rappers embracing this? Even if that sound wasn't dominating male hip-hop right now, it would make more sense for female rappers to adopt this melodic, softer sound

When females THEMSELVES start supporting female artists with actual talent instead of the ones with s***appeal that model for fashion nova with fancy wigs

Go ask females if they know who noname or Tierra Whack are
