Eh only do it once in a while. Some people don't want to talk to random strangers when it's super busy
Some people might clown OP for this but he’s 100% right. Too many people walk around with their head down and their airpods in, miserable with no social skills.
Basic human interaction will make you happier. You don’t need to start asking people their life story, just literally say hello how are you.
Worst case, you get a “good” and you move on with your day. Best case, you may make a new friend or a career connection
Could not agree with you more.
People saying “those people do not want to talk to you” are projecting their own fear or anxiety of having unplanned conversations with others.
Humans thrive off human connections. Talk to someone. Maybe it leads to nothing, or maybe it brings someone the slightest bit of joy. Have no expectations on the other’s reaction - ask because you care and are interested.

yeah when I worked in retail Id be trying to get them in and out as quick as possible, even if we were slow. unless it was a baddie
Only small talk if you can’t create conversation
So let me measure this. You walk into Starbucks and order whatever. And then in the 3 minutes it takes to make your drink yall having meaningful convos with baristas?
Or yall grab your drinks and just stay there and keep talking them?
Customers from hell nfs. Imma wait patiently for my drink then I’m out the door.

Linkedin type story here but one of my friends just got a great job at Merrill Lynch. He offered a stranger his umbrella when it was raining out, the guy ended up being a MD for their wealth management team. Potentially a life changing moment just because he cared enough to do something for a stranger

I’m on the other end where I’m the worker in the situation. If we’re busy making hella drinks yeah we prob don’t wanna talk but if it’s dead or only a couple drinks to be made I don’t mind talking
I’ve made friendships this way, got invites to go out to places, get discounts at places where they work, planted the seed w some baddies, etc
Pretty sure theyre busy and if you talk to them they can get in trouble for even telling you not right now dure to being potentially "rude" f***ed up to put them in tjat situation imo
Just be nice lol and if the worker is the talkative type then go on from there but no one wants a rando to randomly park it especially when theyre just trying to get their day over
But basic friendly attitudes & politeness are always welcome
Nothing wrong w just getting your drink and leaving but also nothing wrong w talking to people as long as they’re not busy
I tried to do this but it ends up me getting kicked out and banned to enter the bar forever
Crazy that in 2023 asking a stranger how their day is is considered a crazy idea
Social media has destroyed us
thread prob a satire but I'm not talking to NOBODY outside like literally NO ONE

Do you honestly think I'm about to tell you Mother's Day was tough for me last weekend because of my Mother's untimely death?
Or I'm currently feeling uncertain?
I'm just going to say "going well, good weather, Mondays right, yourself?"
I'm at my job
Not making pointless small talk is a waste of life
hiding behind your phone with airpods on instead of socializing is a waste of life, trust me
