Provided if they’re not busy, but you’d be surprised at how well you’re able to develop your communication and social skills through this method. It’s becoming a daily habit to grab something from Starbucks before heading off to work and personally, always do my best to strike up a conversation with the worker. Even feels good that I’m treating them with respect, given how much society (and prob some from this site) love to s*** on fast-food workers. In reality they arguably work harder than most mfs from the Office ya feel me.
Start with smiling at them, then talk about anything, whether it be about how their morning is going, favorite hobbies, music, etc. if they’re not doing anything at all, feel free to dive into deeper topics.
Something I wanted to share with y’all
What's more sensibile is not using people as a means to practice your communication
If you so desperately need to for some reason, find a retail worker who would like to talk about the product they are selling
"Communication" is too a service. Don't come to my store filling it with phatic. Buy something. Talk to me to be upsold. I am working, nigga
Also don't rope bartending into this. How on Earth you think that is comparative to Starbucks is nominal nonsense
There were a handful of bars in Denver where I had a good rapport with the bartenders.
Led to the occasional free drink and getting served first if it was busy.

hiding behind your phone with airpods on instead of socializing is a waste of life, trust me
I agree with you but this is not the way to do it
Last valuable conversation I had in retail was at L'Occitane, where the Sales assistant & I chatted about skincare, diet and our pets
But make no mistake, nigga, she wanted to sell & I wanted to f***
I kinda understand what op is trying to say. But u have to be not autistic as well and realize when ppl wanna be left alone.

and idk I feel like there’s a difference between a short sentence or two and literally trying to deep dive into their hobbies and s***. The latter is kinda autistic unless it’s clear they want to go in that direction. if ur forcing that s*** with zero social awareness

approaching every single person and trying to talk to them like you just finished watching a "practice eye contact with a girl 30min version" youtube video
if reading this post from OP is what compels you to actually start being social with people you are categorically f***ed

Hey how're you?
Do you honestly think I'm about to tell you Mother's Day was tough for me last weekend because of my Mother's untimely death?
Or I'm currently feeling uncertain?
I'm just going to say "going well, good weather, Mondays right, yourself?"
I'm at my job
Then ignore it and go along with your day. Literally no harm done.
This isnt literal, the point is that a lot of people lack basic social skills because theyre afraid to talk to people. Before everyone had their heads down on their phone all day, people talked to each other all the time

How are you of all people missing OP's point while agreeing with him lmao
This isn't what he's saying
F*** you. Blocked.
real
I tried to do this but it ends up me getting kicked out and banned to enter the bar forever
You must’ve done something more than simply trying to chat up a bartender
F*** you. Blocked.
just kidding fake as f***. I play ktt on hard mode (0 users blocked)

Maybe not but i still feel like its valuable discourse

Yeah your point is fine. I'm reading a book about this currently and there's a study where they found teenager's communication is truly shocking
I just find it disingenuous to "train your communication skills" on baristas
Like what are you training for;
Difficult conversations with friends? Lovers?
That next promotion negotiation?
Seems odd. You should just talk to people when you feel like it. They got glass skin: hey what's your routine? They got a nice band tee: love them, saw them last night, what did you think?
But this is phatic conversation. It's meaningless and passes the time. So it depends what you consider meaningful and good conversation to be
I'm not speaking to you on the job unless it's financially rewarding
retail and service industry not the same at all when it comes to this
No they aren’t, in the “service” industry whether that’s as a waiter or making coffee at a star bucks you are expected to be polite and offer service with a smile (all corporate s***e that makes me cringe but that’s another story) you aren’t expected to engage in conversation with people. Most of these people are on minimum wage so unless they are chasing tips I can promise you they don’t want to engage in aimless chit chat so someone can use them to work on their social awkwardness.
