is it only when a group of people are vocal about how they feel about there culture being appropriated? What about the things that are perpetuating stereotypes and no one talks about

For example take Super Mario, an Italian plumber

With a handlebar mustache and a goofy manner of speaking

Japanese company Nintendo created the character and is profiting in the billions of dollars off a stereotype of an Italian-American and no one is vocal about it

Let's look at the news recently:
    https://www.cnn.com/style/article/mahjong-tiles-cultural-appropriation-intl-hnk-scli-dst/index.html

an American mahjong company sparks controversy because they made their own designs on mahjong tiles and said it was a new refresh on American-mahjong

However there bored was based on American-Mahjong which is derived from Chinese-Mahjong (different rules) is it possible to categorize the two differently?

    A similar comparison - chess

How come there is no particular group claiming chess is there game and everyone is profiting of it

It had to originate someware right?

Now it is a popular game on Twitch and egirls are getting donations for playing chess (s/o Alexandra Botez)

What happened to sharing cultures is it not meant to be shared? However if the originator is not credited then it is considered appropriation right - but hasn't someone said no idea is original it never what you do bot how it's done

Are we just being selective about which cultures are deemed appropriated or are there more layers as to what can be considered offensive and cultural appropriation?

Also there is a Super Mario chess board
If there were any groups claiming it to be offensive and appropriating Italian and whichever culture Chess came from this would be hyper cultural appropriation right lolz

    i dont give a s***

  • in a pluralistic, open society, cultural mingling and borrowing is inevitable

dont be an a****** and you're good

Culture is meant to be shared, if that wasnt the case yall wouldnt be eating pizza and i wouldnt celebrate halloween. Nobody gets mad about people showing love to another culture by eating their food or practicing their costumes. Only time culture can get appropriated is when a culture claims a costume being theirs when its not. All that other s*** white americans get mad about is not culture appropriation, and also americans shouldnt talk about other cultures and should not get offended for other cultures

The line is pretty clear imo:

Are you gaining something (validation, wealth, etc) from exploiting a look/trend/idea/feature that isn't yours.

Bro chess been a collective effort of whole mankind. Nobody gets to claim that.

The difference with Mario is that it doesn’t really target Italian culture in that way. It uses an Italian stereotype and turns him into a hero.

Cultural appropriation tends from ignoring all the meaning behind certain things and being exploitative or degrading.
