Its not at all

it's a fun and cerebral sci-fi thriller that's like one of them movies you remember in 5 years on a random saturday afternoon and like "oh i'll put that on".

this ain't a movie that really moved the needle or anything.

I could see ex machina maybe being on a top 200 of 2010s before this one

nah, ex machina is a good movie, annihilation is a spiritual experience

Haunting, incredible film. Saw it at a time in my life where I was not doing well mentally - the theme of self-sabotage really hit hard.

this movie's sound design is something else

This, Arrival and Intersteller are all overrated. Sci Fi done in a very Hollywood way but trying to reach acclaim like 2001. It all seems so forced and lacking. Give us something to remember besides the visuals. All decent at best no where near any top movie list

Like this movie a lot but unfortunately not everyone else does

Good movie. Rewatched it recently for the first time since release. But not really ranking anywhere significant in the best of the 2010s

Arrival is legitimately a great movie. Very different from interstellar imo, which I agree is mad overrated. Especially on here

I try not to use this word often but this is really overrated. Not bad at all but nothing special just a very average movie

What about arrival felt forced or lacking to you?

It feels like Hollywood sci-fi movies want to have impact and influence like District 9 but are all too safe with no style. They want to be unique but still packaged for general audiences and you can't have both

@ilgnd I’ll be honest all 3 that I named were so passively boring that I fell asleep on first watch for all 3. Arrival was the only one I never went back to rewatch. Might do it. Usually like Dennis, but his s*** drags a lot.

It doesn't

As someone who grew up rewatching Predator and reading a lot of science fiction, it definitely hit the spot. It feels so much bigger than its budget. Amazing ending. Great movie.

Read all the Southern Reach books after. Can't recommend those enough. Better than any Lovecraft I've read by a mile.
