Wasn’t 2001 remembered for its visuals….
Visuals were certainly part of it I mean they literally had proprietary tech, stuff could've been patented
But the thing about 2001 is the deeper story, the mystery. That's what modern sci fi lacks

Dragged Across Concrete, definitely
But I realized that’s a 2019 film anywaysEl Royale is closer in quality, but I still found it really fun, really enjoyed Jeff Bridges and Cynthia Erivo. Loses me a bit in the third act.

Arrival is a great movie. Only seen this one once but the visuals and especially sound design carried more than the plot I thought. Still liked it though

Annihilation is a Predator riff and otherwise straight out of the book with a fraction of the budget of Interstellar.
Arrival also straight out of the short story. Fraction of the budget of Interstellar.
Wouldn't really call either "Hollywood" besides some A listers. Annihilation went to Netflix lol
