First and foremost rest in peace Takeoff

I say they have a case for like top 6 or 7, maybe just behind The Roots since they only have two (niche-)classics in YRN2 / Culture, but they had huge hits and a significant impact on the culture i.e. dabbing and lingo. They really helped change the sound of rap although there's a good argument it has not been a good change

    Could honestly go like:

    Outkast
    ATCQ
    Wu-Tang
    NWA
    Roots
    Migos / Mobb Deep

At their peak at around 2014-2017 you could argue they were at times among the top 3 hottest artists with Future and Drake (crine). EVERYONE was rapping like them. Apart from that, they were also part of iconic moments like that Vice Atlanta documentary or the Joe Budden incident

Yes, apart from some Quavo features their solo stuff is mostly mid and they kind of fell off a clip artistically after Culture I but you can easily carve out a good 20-25 track best of with front to back heat

Also their a capellas were ate up by mashup culture

  • Easily top 100

  • Top 10 if not higher

Roots should be way higher. Way more extensive and consistent discography than a lot of those other groups (ie Wu and NWA).

Real, I only rate them this low because of the popularity factor - if we are talking strictly catalogue they battle Outkast for No1

Groups of 3 or more definitely top 10 for me but I’d have to see the comp

As someone who ranks stuff like this all the time, consistency and catalog are important but are lowkey over emphasized in spaces like these

At a certain point, ranking groups just based on who was more “consistent” can get boring

Like yeah The Roots were consistently giving 8-9/10 work but it’s also a valid argument to say that Straight Outta Compton and the whole ripple effect that it had blows the Roots whole s*** out the water. It’s a tough exercise and I don’t know that there’s a right answer but we gotta take a lot of factors into account, not just all this discog measuring contest that it often becomes.

And that’s without getting into Wu. Cmon, no one thinks the Roots are better than Wu lol let’s be real. Roots can make 50 more albums that are all consistent and they’re not going to do anything that outweighs the Wu run of 93 to 97. Wu don’t deserve to be grouped in with NWA because really all the solo albums were just group albums too, they got a strong enough catalog to play in that arena

  • Ranking the Migos is a fascinating exercise. They remind me of Waka Flocka, in that honestly they have Always been inconsistent but have tons of great music and features. I do think that Culture 1 gets overrated and some of their later music underrated.

The problem with C1 onwards is they rapped over boring beats a lot of time. As you can hear on Nasty with A$ap Ferg or the Super freak version of Bad and Boujee, when they rap over creative beats it sounds better.

In no order this is the top 10

    Three 6 Mafia
    Public Enemy
    Run DMC
    De La Soul
    Wu Tang
    Tribe
    Mobb Deep
    Outkast
    NWA
    UGK

If you really wanted to sub migos for Ugk then maybe you can but idk i think these 10 are solidified

  • theyre not that good

  • Normies do not like the Migos. Takeoff does not get the respect that every other dead rapper has received. Like when Chris Brown disrespected him and Quavo started pulling off posthumous diss features no one cared.

  • They can def go on a list, but they’d be towards the back half.

Their music still needs time to age.
    Popularity wanes.
And can argue they changed rap for the worse…
