90’s because those drums had soul to them. Even if they were played on an MPC or they just straight up sampled the drum break instead of chopping it up. Boom Bap had character to it and even to this day when used right it works so good. @op the neptunes had hard ass drums bruh lol. Kanye struggled with those. But anyways Havoc’s drum are so impeccable. I can see why Kanye wanted to emulate him or Pharrell but Q-Tip’s drums are something else also.
Pharell was f***ing crazy on the drums
On another note I dont like a lot of 2000s Rap (these days) but I like a lot of 2000s production
All
I’d say the 2000s were best for R&B and pop production tho
90s beats were so damn hard. I feel like you’d hear this when you get to the gates of hell lol
90s is easily the most timeless
2000s is what i grew up on but early 00s is dated as f*** and late decade early 2010s aged like piss super quickly
idk man 2000s a strong contender. only thing that holds it back is the soul sample phase

!https://youtu.be/MX6rC1krGp0!https://youtu.be/lOWKGXpl9E000s beats were simple and the drums didn't hit as hard as the other decades but there was something about these beats that just felt...daytime lol like it was a funner era. Beats like Beautiful by Pharrell and Snoop, for example. Don't "bump in the whip" like current beats and 2010s beats but they just worked really well.
