I just read a article about a women who stole over $500,000 from her company over a 10 year period and only got 18 months in jail while I have a cousin who robbed a pizza man for a pizza and $20 and got three years in prison with a plea but was looking at 9 years.

Am I tripping or is something actually wrong with or criminal justice sentencing and race?

(FYI the women was white, my cousin was a black male teenager.)

White collar crime has a bigger negative impact on the world too... the perception of rich white people doing this s*** isn't "criminal" and they have the money to make it go away anyways

Seems like Sanders the only one who's made prison reform part of his policies as well.

Sadly he did. But it’s still messed up. He Also got charged with 2 other robberies because he fit the description which was “tall, black and skinny” and the court told him if he took the extra charges and didn’t go to trial he would get 3 instead of 9 years. Like idk man it’s just messed up to me

Mans had a hard life. Abandoned by parents because one was a d***gie and the other was irresponsible. He was starving and all he had was a gun as a meal ticket.

It’s unreal bro. White collar crime is what messes with society the most not robbery because someone’s starving and literally has to go to school to eat food that day.

Thats unfortunate. Robbing somebody with a firearm has always carried a hefty sentence.

It's not about the amount of money stolen. It's much more about the tactics used.

Laundering money or cooking the books isn't gonna kill or harm anyone. Actually sticking someone up with a weapon and robbing them is disgusting and should be heavily punished. Anything could go wrong with that s***.

white collar, i stole thousands of dollars cash from my previous job and never got caught and i’m white so

But large white collar crimes can affect the economy as a whole and can impact people having jobs and taxes which ultimately hurt the poor more and more even though it’s not there fault

you are most certainly not tripping. the united states has always disproportionately targeted black people and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. we need to take the money out of prisons. that needs to be at the center of elections but we mull over it, even in f***ing 2020

I think because the person who does the $500k crime they can usually get whatever assets back they purchased from it. Kinda like purchasing a car if you don’t make the payment for several months someone is gonna come take it and your credit gets f***ed. It not like you goto jail for it. That person also probably won’t ever be able to get a job with that type of responsibility again.

Where as the other you threatened someone with a gun over $20

But guns are legal to protect people against stuff like that so the same people making these laws should be good

Yea this a pretty obvious one. Justice system is f***ed up but your cousin a dumbass sorry to be blunt OP. Anytime u rob someone with a gun (especially for a f***ing pizza & $20 which is one of the dumbest things I’ve read in quite some time) you gonna do serious time.

  • Feb 27, 2020

White collar is usually taking advantage of a flawed system which takes a bit of tack. “Black” crime usually is intimidation and brute force so I see the differences in charges. It’s not about how much was stolen it’s about how
