At least if the timeline plays out as it has sans this event: without World War 2, there’s not another realistic opportunity to use a nuke imo. The same rationale of MAD should apply in the Cold War even without seeing how calamitous a nuke is (I won’t pretend like it wasn’t a factor). I realize this sounds like I’m absolving the US blame of actually using said nuke
