He needed to make room for those 18 monty features

Highkey the realest move in music . Go major and give ur homie every feature on ur debut.

Career wise this was his 9/11 tho

Fetty Wap hype lasted for a good 2-3 years. Gotta few diamond plaques, multiple plat plaques. Was getting featured on songs with just about...anybody lol Selena Gomez, Gucci Mane, 6ix9ine, Young Thug, The Lox, Rita Ora, Gwen Stefani, Project Pat. His 2014-2016 run was insane.

I lived through the Chingy era and it was a couple good songs, but his momentum came to a screeching halt within the same year he started blowing up due to beef with Nelly.

Chingy had hits for a few years

Wasnt Pulling Me Back in like 07-08

Janet was blackballed at the time.

She was never blackballed...she was literally getting Grammy nominations and getting frequent live TV performances throughout 2005 and 2006.

S*** in that same year of the super bowl incident, she was still promoting Damita Jo and frequently appearing on late night TV. If not for Usher dropping Confessions it would've easily debuted at No. 1 lol

The only media platform that reduced playing Janet was MTV. Which is hilarious considering they still kept playing R Kelly videos despite him just being on trial for child p*** and pissing on a minor.

The truth is, though, she hasn't had a top-ten hit song ever since, and "Just a Little While" would've indisputably gone #1 -- just like "All for You" -- if it hadn't been for Timberlake's SuperBowl "incident."

Not to mention she'd been struggling to get a #1 album for years prior to "Unbreakable."

And her latest Daddy Yankee-assisted single.

    Ugh.

    An utter underperformance.

  • Jul 6, 2025

Even "Feedback" or "Call on Me" didn't crack the top 10.

I really think it was less that Janet Jackson was being blackballed and more that...hate to put it this way, but she was getting old lol

By 2005 she just put out her 8th album gearing up for her 9th. Like 20 Yo was literally in direct reference to the 20th anniversary of her album Control which was from 1986...she was 40 years old at the time.

Just gotta look at the landscape of R&B/pop music for the time. Rihanna, Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, Amerie were young and their careers were starting to blow up. Omarion, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, T-Pain, and even Jamie Foxx were making waves. Janet was a legend of course, but the new guard was on the come up. And I guess you can say of her contemporaries like Usher, Mariah Carey, and Mary J Blige they were technically younger and just put out incredible albums in Confessions, Emancipation of Mimi, and The Breakthrough.

Janet wasn't necessarily blackballed. The audience and industry just began to move on from her

I still believe "Damita Jo" would've been successful single-wise and album-sale-wise if it hadn't been for JT at 2004's SuperBowl.
