Jon Batiste is a world-renowned jazz pianist coming from a well known New Orleans family of talented artists. Went to Julliard and was killing s*** from like...17. But y'know, putting on for your city that's known as the original place where jazz started doesn't count for anything more than court jester/minstrel style entertainment when you're a c***right?
Love how it's only the black musicians that play on the late night shows that get a "bad rep" for some reason.
I mean considering what's become of jazz as a genre (completely co-opted and made palatable for old white audiences and extremely gatekept by white institutions), it's not a leap for a person to make

Honestly just makes a Black jazz pianist winning a Grammy for a jazz R&B album that much better. He's actually the first Black artist to win a Grammy for Album of the Year since 2008. The last Black artist to do that? Legendary Black jazz pianist Herbie Hancock.
