Honestly just makes a Black jazz pianist winning a Grammy for a jazz R&B album that much better. He's actually the first Black artist to win a Grammy for Album of the Year since 2008. The last Black artist to do that? Legendary Black jazz pianist Herbie Hancock.

Herbie is a f***ing legend....he shouldn't have won that year either. It ain't about black/non-black, it's about a project that's palatable to the old ass, mostly white, academy (also made by someone with a CBS contract) walking away with the win for the least challenging music.

It's weak sauce. And I f*** with Jon's musically ability. But it's definitely eye roll worthy

Why? Why was he the least deserving of the award? Is it because he’s not as popular as the other nominees?

did you not see my previous post?

both happier than ever and SOUR have absolutely brilliant songwriting, solid production and they have a ton of great moments within each album, SOUR is literally the makings of the next pop megastar and happier than ever shows a more matured project from billie from her debut, that's not even factoring in the popularity dude.

you niggas always trying to spin it into some corny white v black s***, like no one cares about that s*** dude.

like yeah bro, billie and olivia singlehandedly have revitalized pop and have some of the most refreshing mainstream albums in a hot minute, but hey, let's give the award to run of the mill black dude that plays instruments (oh my god, a "real" musician)

give me a f***ing break man

    revitalized? refreshing?

EXACTLY. like f*** the pro-black angle, these niggas literally went the pretentious route and chose the "actual" musician over any of the hip hop albums PLUS the pop albums

I may also be hating cause that "Freedom" song sucks ass and is played all the time on Sling

Who should have won in your opinion?

I don't really care for her, but I feel Doja Cat should've won for Planet Her. It was just impossible to escape hearing that album everywhere/anywhere. Very impactful pop album that catapulted her to a level of supe om I didn't even think was possible for her. And even though I don't care much for her music I can't deny that for pop music, it does surprisingly sound unique from the usual s*** we've been getting.

Question did you listen to the Jon Batiste album? I’m willing to bet you didn’t because if you want to get into the nitty gritty of the actual musicianship of the albums Jon Batiste clears every single nominee by a country mile. Idgaf if the next Drake was birthed in this nominee pool the album was great.

Yall niggas be just bragging about how yall don't know nothin bout black American music lol.

@lovetalkgames with all due respect, you can eat a d*** with that bullshit you just posted.

Jon Batiste is a world-renowned jazz pianist coming from a well known New Orleans family of talented artists. Went to Julliard and was killing s*** from like...17. But y'know, putting on for your city that's known as the original place where jazz started doesn't count for anything more than court jester/minstrel style entertainment when you're a c***right?

Love how it's only the black musicians that play on the late night shows that get a "bad rep" for some reason.

Damn, u really put that bozo in his place

  • people itt don't know how the voting system works

a bunch of pop albums + a jazz album + Kanye

The pop votes were divided, Kanye would never win, so...

  • Apr 4, 2022

I thought his new album was just solid, but he's very talented and respected. Though it feels like this year it felt like the Grammy's kinda gave him a bunch of awards to make up that they were ignoring him his entire career lol

  • Apr 4, 2022

you niggas literally pick and f***ing choose when to care about when a nigga can "actually play an instrument" and it's always to act holier-than-thou over other people who think other artists are better. go somewhere with that s*** dude
