her songwriting is very finely developed for someone her age, she can simultaneously tell you personal anecdotes while making it relatable for the common high school girl with a wealth of clever metaphors and hooks scattered in most of the songs. (not too dissimilar to some of Lorde's pen on Melodrama, if you ask me, but they're still worlds removed)
she captures the teenage angst perfectly on songs such as brutal and the perils of relationship troubles on deja vu, 1 step forward or good 4 u and she again, simultaneously weaves her own personal stories and battles with it while making it relatable to literally anyone around her age, a pen already that matured is VERY promising.
it's a great album.
ok cool, it's a good album. but I'm failing to see what's so innovative and refreshing
these dumbass niggas will literally stan the most milquetoast of hip hop artists that don't know any music theory or play any instruments, and call them GOAT or musical legends, (and im not even f***ing saying you need to know music theory or how to play instruments to be considered that, but to switch narratives NOW? ) but when this random dude who beats out pop artists they hold some weird misplaced personal disdain for, all of the sudden actual musicianship matters and we all need to come around the fire as black people and sing Kumbaya
you niggas don't deserve ears at all
because he's a magical black guy that plays instruments, he's the perfect token in one package
you can't claim racism because he's black and won, and he's also a fancy musician, so that gratifies the old dude types who feel like hip hop and pop is a lesser art in comparison to something like jazz (which they obviously f***ing do)
Bruh really calling this man a magical piano playing negro for winning a Grammy...
Again PLEASE read this thread so you'd actually understand why this discussion is even happening. Nobody is "claiming racism because he's Black and won". Many people itt are saying he didn't really deserve it. S***, even I said Planet Her likely should've won over it. We're claiming racism cause there's a white dude itt who pretty much called him minstrel show coon who made an album without thoughtful or resonating music compared to prototypical teenage angst from Olivia Rodrigo

no one has written songs so densely packed with personality and effortlessly expressing teenage angst with minimal pitfalls in a very long time, that's what i mean by refreshing.
if you mean groundbreaking in terms of the actual music, then no, it obviously isn't a sonically innovative masterpiece like The Velvet Underground or something of that ilk.

okay, and im saying some of the niggas itt don't actually care about jazz or actual musicianship. they care now because they beat some white pop singers they have a weird hate boner for.

Y’all caring to much about the Grammies that don’t matter
Or do they not matter only when someone y’all don’t like wins?
Anyway the Jon Batiste album was fantastic and you should check it out
If you’re a fan of jazz fusion it’s an incredible body of work. It can feel a bit commercial at times but lots of songs on the album that are raw af and absorb you into the music. Lotta catchy lines that are stuck in my head too. Lyrics on this album cut through, it’s really nice
@hanshan i tried 20 minutes ago but look no one gave a s*** and wanted to talk about who deserved or not
Suck my d*** disrespectfully
Y’all caring to much about the Grammies that don’t matter

Grammys dont matter for hip hop imo but this is pop music we talking about

this is such a stupid take lol if my album sold 4k copies that means it had 6mil streams the first week.(no physical copies)
So for a 15 track album thats 400k streams per track.
Thats a lot of unique listeners who can give their opinion on the album so who gives a s*** how much it sold

I mean Danny Brown has just never sold well. Doesn't mean he don't drop great albums. Atrocity Exhibition is often put on the same level as XXX if not higher and it only sold 7K first week. His best selling album is still Old at just 15k first week, and much of that came as a result of him going more EDM.
Great albums can still be great regardless of their sales. The fact that these albums still hung around and get play on DSPs show that good music lasts.
nigga sprinkling water on a forest fire he started months ago talm bout look guys i did my bit

that isn't my point. my point is that you are not going to sit here and cap and be performative about actually wanting "real" art to win and then not even go f***ing support the music. that s*** is CORNY.
this nigga Danny literally bankrupted his label and busted his ass making Atrocity Exhibition and that s*** even flew under the f***ing radar until it finally got the recognition it deserved a couple years later
i do not respect people who pretend to be supportive of s*** that they actually do not f***ing care about. it's a pet peeve, and i see it on here ALL the time
