I've never heard any rock fan tell me anything about sales. Don't recall any hip hop conversation, other than Grad vs Curtis, being about sales until last 5-6 years. Even my local latin music, they brag about sales but fans don't talk about that unless they're super stans. Now a days you get into arguments over who's better in rap and stans bring out sales numbers

mr get doughBro rappers were saying s*** like that because they were speaking to the audience. It didn’t used to be necessarily first week sales but it used to be about if your album went platinum or not and that 100% did matter to fans before Drake came out
Of course Drake fans care about sales the most now because he’s the best selling rapper but it didn’t start with him or his fans
If all this was the case, Jadakiss would've never had a career.
To be one of the rappers who's prime was in an era that literally anybody and they mama was getting a platinum album (Even f***ing Tony Yayo). If that mattered, how come rappers that barely was going gold in that era still had careers?
