This gonna be minimizing but f*** it, them Travis saved my life niggas are just rock fans who finally got a semi-hardcore mainstream rockstar in their youth. Cudi to a lesser extent was the same s***

Travis probably the closest one. We might not ever see the same authenticity that the blog era brought again.

    Travis makes good projects tho.

The ATLxHouston black guy sheen gives credibility and modern coolness to Travis the rockstar, early Cudi being a slightly bummy nigga outta shape lends to the credibility of a guy with f***ed mental health. But make no mistake it’s really about the rock appeal

Yeah, the whole rockstar s*** that Cudi was going into during MOTM2 era is what appeal Travis, but not the introspective lyricism at all, because Travis is the type of nigga never seemed to care that much about the lyrics or have a deep concept in my mind.

Can’t say I agree tbh. The whole run of DBR- Astroworld happened during my HS years I’d say his fanbase/stanbase was firmly rooted in hip hop. I can’t say I’ve ever met a single Travis fan who was a rock fan first

I see what you saying but are these Travis saved my life niggas or just og fans? Unless those are both entirely the same thing

  • onetwo

Feel like the closest was Juice or X but there was never any real equivalent, Cudi is one of a kind imo

This is from a stylistic standpoint not a personality one btw

Juice was closest especially with his simp song that went viral. But he had an equally as impactful internet rap trap discog as well that people forget about his emotional stuff

almost getting knocked out at the show, my homie disappearing in a crowd surge at the same show and then reappearing on our favorite song was quite emotional

owl pharaoh kinda deep in Travis’ unique way. Same with Rodeo and Utopia.

    Til Further Notice

    D**** You Should Try It

sdp interlude (late night cruising after smoking and vibing)

    Impossible

    Open Arms

    MAFIA

I feel like you're more attached to the memories these songs were the soundtrack to rather than the music itself stirring an emotion. Unless "Smoke some, drink some, pop one" had you emotional

Not a bad thing and I have similar experiences with Travis songs. But Cudi's music feels vulnerable, like he's genuinely opening up to the listener. Almost every Travis lyric where he attempts this falls flat because he's such a bad writer

  • Free YoungBoy

I would say the guy who’s at the top of the game who is literally named after him

Travis cannot come close to a song that invokes the feeling of a Mr. Rager

    Or an All Along

Tbh, I think it's that, but I honestly feel like Travis looked up to the worst aspects of Scott than what made Scott/Cudi a uplifting figure in the first place as an artist.

Cudi's mission statement was to make the kids and young adults to understand they're not alone in this world and he go through struggles and demons as well.

Travis represents the opposite of that plus he indulges in the darker parts of that lifestyle.

The Mr Rager character was never supposed to be someone to look up to. Cudi wanted to be better than that and be more matured minded.

Travis is exactly Mr Rager, but the worst version of that.

Yea its like he read the entire message of motm 2 wrong and thought cudi was a badass rockstar or something lol

So he’s a bad writer and Cudi has more substance. I just don’t be getting why that then leads to dishonest critiques of his music. Why attack assumptions about me as opposed to criticizing the songs I named, which you said have bad lyrics. But do they lack the ability to captivate someone’s emotions?

I think that’s why so many people have an attachment of Rodeo era Travis. He was the character to give in to those tendencies and “dark lifestyle”. It’s weird tho, because in the albums and projects that followed, it seemed more that Rodeo was made by complete accident, and I don’t think Travis himself was even meaning to immolate Mr Rager.

For sure! Being a fan and an artist in the blog era just felt a lot more wholesome though. Seeing people talk about sales and brand deals nowadays just throws me off.

It’s hard for artists to make a project that’s 100% themselves now. Too many variables that get in the way. And if they ever do, the fans call you trash and move on to a safer project they’ll use for background noise.

The blog era just felt real! Travis caught the tail end of it and I loved those projects. He’s still a great artist today, but I feel like he limits himself because of the modern day fans and brands he’s tied to.

  • its probably someone like Quinn but tbh idk what aspect of Cudi people wanna compare modern rappers to

I apologise if my post came across as offensive or attacking you, that wasn't what I was trying to do

But your post mentioned a performance and late night cruising to SDP. So I just wanted to point out that maybe it's the memories attached to the music rather than the music itself that leads to the emotional connection

The post you replied to said that Cudi is notoriously emotional in his music, that's really all it is. Substance in lyrics vs lack thereof
