I can’t even blame artists who are trying to go #1 that bloat their albums. but if you’re not, then why bother?
do you guys think a short, cohesive and filler-less project makes you a bigger fan of an artist? or is it just me
streaming
thats def the short answer but artists barely get paid from streaming especially if theyre signed to a major so why not make that shorter album and tour it to a more dedicated group
Some artists can be exception to the rule but in general I do prefer it when an album is 13-14 tracks at most.
I personally don’t care. There’s prob songs on a bloated project that I don’t like that someone else does.
If you are a music fan who really puts the “album” on a pedestal, then you will care. And I understand that.

I think in 2023, there's artists who can drop a 30 minute album that sucks and I'll never listen to it again. meanwhile an album like Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme by Simon & Garfunkle can really capture my brain & attention for its 30 minute runtime because its creators are that dope. and if their label dropped a 50 minute deluxe version tomorrow with demos from the original sessions for that album, I would probably love it.
I don't think a long album is bad by default, its that music itself is a less skilled trade & less labor intensive than it has been in previous generations. so you have a chance to make more duds with every song that you slap onto an album. like you said, the best artists are deliberate and pay attention to details. too many people today are lazy with their work

would making shorter albums really make it so you have a more dedicated fan base though?

u 100% right. its the last point im rly tryna make too so im glad u picked up on that. fans are attracted to deliberate artists. but its just not something that can easily be quantified
