Clarifier: I'm referring to artists who are known for making other genres stepping out to make an attempt at a dance album. For example, someone like Kaytranada wouldn't apply here since dance music is his home genre.
All of these projects were met with lukewarm-to-negative reactions from fans and critics alike, with all of them considered to be a significant step down from the artist's usual level of quality. Don't Tap the Glass was the only one to get a generally positive reception from critics specifically, but nowhere near the same level of praise any of his previous studio albums got. Personally, I enjoy Honestly, Nevermind, but I agree on the consensus opinion of the other three albums.
As lockdown lifted in 2021/2022 and dance music started to become a defining genre of the decade as people began to get back outside, there's been a plethora of female artists who achieved significant success both commercially and critically within the genre, but for some reason their male peers are having trouble hitting the same heights.
What do you think could be the reason for this? And who are some prominent male artists right now that you think could drop a high quality dance record?
My first pick would be Uzi
Because they’re not good.
Did you just intentionally ask for Uzi music.
Uzi has flirted with dance music three times now and knocked it out the park every single time
all of these except Honestly Nevermind have very weak uninspired songwriting, which doesn't lend itself well to dance music as a medium. no real emotionality, passion, grooves to latch onto either. compare those to Renaissance for example which has that in spades all over the album
i was gonna say cause they're not gay but then i saw the tyler album
idk just make it great
having hits def helps out

An uzi dance album could be very good and a huge moment
nigga aint even mention kaytranda
he hasn't dropped anything truly great since Bubba
nigga aint even mention kaytranda
Should've specified in OP: I'm referring to artists who are known for making other genres stepping out to make an attempt at a dance album. Kaytranada is a renowned artist in the dance/EDM space so he wouldn't really apply here. I'll add that clarifier to OP

Fully agree. Could lowkey even see it being a sort of landmark rap project
None of them ever stepped foot inside a ballroom yet they want to use the sound cause they ran out of ideas
i haven’t heard the harry album but believability is the main factor as to why some of these albums didn’t work
Dance subgenres are all cultures in themselves. Sometimes you've gotta be really immersed in it to make it work. It's not too different from all these genre-bending internet artists these days that just feel really detatched from the source. It comes off as too polished or even ironic a lot of the time
Think they're just not good, especially they first two feels like they done it for the sake of it rather than caring for the genre
Crazy how DAWN FM doesn’t suffer from this
how can i make this about The Weeknd 😈
Bruno mars exists
reception to harry styles album baffles me because he's been releasing terrible music since before covid
I feel like drake, tame and harry albums here all have the same issue. Really and stale and undercooked production, incohesive and boring songwriting and vocals. A song or two that stand out but the bulk of the songwriting is just directionless meandering s***. You can’t just throw 4 on the floor drums on something and have it = good dance music. The synths and instrumentation on all these are super sterile, thin and boring. There isn’t many sticky, catchy, instantaneous verses or hooks on any of these. The dance aesthetic/form feels like a crutch to just have long directionless empty unfocused detours that don’t feel or sound good.
Tyler album isn’t that good either but not sure if it’s issues are the same as the issues of the others
they not gay enough
this is why tyler is kinda the best of these and tame impala the worst btw
