By being political about who’s landing on playlists they effectively shape consumption by casuals to fit their own agenda

aka what labels used to do

Can someone explain what dsp is
    Distributed Streaming Platforms?

  • Sep 29, 2020

i think there’s a very big difference between being able to put your product on the marketplace that they own whole still having control over what is and isn’t there vs labels having every say over your career

    digital

  • DSPs actually could be even worse than what labels were in the 2000s, it felt like there was more alternatives then and this new paradigm is taking that away

That said, I can put music out on all DSPs for 5 bucks a month, obviously it won’t get pushed but as long as that’s possible for regular independent artists, I can only be so mad about them selectively blackballing celebrities. As long as generally anyone in the world can access it. But it is a problem that it’s only black artists who get this treatment

Imo I think DSPs shouldn't blackball artists regardless if their disliked by general public.

But that wouldn't happen cuz labels are investing money into DSPs & are scared that they might lose subscribers if they push a "problematic" person on their platform.

    It’s a problem

You should look at some of the numbers around playlisting some time

    It’s so depressing
