Rock has been whitewashed and has a barrier of entry with equipment costs, Rap won't suffer that fate because it will never be completely politically correct.

I think black talent on songs like this

    (first song)

Would go crazy especially if the lyrics were a lil more relatable

Big ones like TM88 and I think Metro can play piano.
Daytrip and Kenny play guitar too.

  • Jul 4, 2022

are there much black dudes making rock on the ground level like makin bands and stuff even just for fun or local level gigs

  • Jul 4, 2022

Accessibility and perception play a huge role.

It’s much more difficult to assemble a rock band than it is to get a mic and pirate a VST.

Then you have the barrier of perception where black acts are just tossed into Rap or RnB regardless of their musical content.

Even people like Carti, Rico won’t be considered rock acts by the majority of people.

How do rock fans feel about artists using studio produced instruments?

Bedroom pop is/was a big thing as that made it more accessible but for every Lorde you have 20 imitators which are just inoffensive.

Live instrumentations is still a barrier for most people to reach a certain echelon of artists but just listening to music I don’t think anyone really cares if that makes sense

Not pop but Death Grips at one point was the best thing pushing rock/experimental music forward

Someone on the coli said part of it is pop/rock niggas are seen as corny present day

But it depends because I think u could argue Juice and X were rock artists

I will say I think it’s partly cuz pop/rock songs generally have corny lyrics but if it’s lyrical it can be a great song

Katy Perry - Changed to The Rhythm
    The Neighborhood - Sweater Weather

most bands you will find these days are usually full of rich art school kids

OP saw my thread and was like ,The answer is sadly racism.

If there is to be a black rock revolution it would have to be a rapper to switch lanes and kick it off.

It is prolly very hard to break in and generate a profitable fanbase as a black rocker solely in the rock space.

There will have to be overlap from hip hop.

Shoot ya saw how they did Wayne for even trying to attempt it.

If you want to break it down, pop music literally is short for popular music.

There no real structure or sound for a pop song beyond it having commercial appeal.

As someone said hip hop is a form of popular music especially in the last 15 or so years.

His vocal inflections really remind me of punk music if you still wanna call it rock

  • Jul 4, 2022

they don’t want black people in pop

they give us R&B and we never get out unless we make a fuss about it individually

  • Jul 4, 2022

They mislabel a lot of music and call it hip-hop/rap instead of pop or rock because the artist is black. I don’t know how it’s not a bigger deal.
