I don't keep up with rap like that anymore but KDot really felt like a legend out the gate because he was blessed by Dre/Snoop/Game during Sxn 80 and kept topping projects. Trab almost had it but his style got stale with no substance
Also everyone is quantity over quality nowadays and people wonder why Carti has an insane cult fanbase

travis outside of his albums is a bum, but he hasnt missed on a full solo project yet, we'll see how utopia turns out
was nas in most people's top 10 OAT in like 2001
Check them old forums history has been nice on the old folks
The real answer is they not old yet.
Back in the days if you didn't respect Rahim or krs one on your list give a shout out to Marly marl
Niggas would look at you crazy.
If you had Rakim on your list now
Niggas would look at you crazy.
unfortunately a lot of them just aren't considered top tier rappers outside of Their generations
& that's great bc most of them don't want to be
not many of today's rappers seem to care about making great albums
there's a few i see on that path tbh but not many of today's rappers have contributed a whole lot to Hip-Hop if you ask someone in their 20s like most of ktt2
Polo G in the running
Smino if he counts as a rapper
Uzi
Kevin Abstract
EST Gee
Kenny Mason
Maybe Yachty
Kevin just off his influence on the youth and Kenny for sure
Drake and Kendrick are in a lot of mfs all time lists lol. Hell a lot of oldheads (notably in the industry) put Drake in the top 10
new school rappers and old school rappers make two entirely different genres of music so comparing them is like apples and oranges IMO. hiphop isn't lyrically oriented anymore its carried by production and hooks. in fact most of today's rappers are singing half the time.
rap is youth focused at this point where rap use to be about self expression and saying whatever the f*** you want as opposed to making songs for kids to dance to at homecoming. current hiphop still has its place but wouldn't put any modern rapper up there with nas, jigga, 50, cam, or em in their prime.

Drake kinda doesn’t need to be explained but he’s been the cultural constant for mainstream hiphop throughout an entire decade+. The guy bridged gaps in unprecedented ways while being the last icon of what a traditional rap superstar is (hence part of why a good number of oldheads in the industry acknowledge him as a goat)
Kendrick through cultural osmosis has become the symbol of what a goat rapper “should” be amongst people outside of the culture. It’s fascinating how this is less true within the culture, as he is the new face of “the good one”. As problematic as it gets the deeper you look into why that is, it’s a mark of goat status on his legacy
Just to explain why these two definitely are lol
New niggas ain’t deep enough. You can only do so much with the sounds being pushed nowndays. The usual candidates have cultural moments that touch on a variety of topics and sounds
Kevin just off his influence on the youth and Kenny for sure
This is the funniest post itt

Imagine Nas is not in your top 10 but you put Kurtis Blow on there or something
