it's not that deep, F&S stance on reps is that we don't f*** with them. It's a culture thing. Reddit is a few keystrokes away tho.

That’s not the point. If you don’t f*** with them then don’t post in a reps thread.

There’s plenty of subjects I don’t f*** with here, so I don’t go to those threads

It’s hilarious to hear people say they don’t buy shoes cause of hype they buy them cause of how the look and they don’t care what other people think.....

But then hate on people who buy reps lmao

every section has rules fam, that's one of them here

you're acting like you're making some groundbreaking argument that we've never heard before, I get your perspective but we just don't promote it here

I don't wear reps but lowkey I hope they take over and kill resale markets.
When I had the most shoes I was anti rep hard but I think psychological since I paid more or at least retail for them I felt like reps were taking away from what I had to an extent and that it was unfair and I think that's the general mentality people have when they're anti rep. Ultimately reps don't do anything bad for you, you still own the real pair but it's a weird sense of not wanting people to have what you have. It's a driving factor in a lot of shoes and the market in general
A lot of sneakers you see are fakes too and nobody knows. Ain't no way every just owns 2015 Chicago's and all those exclusive colors. I've legit seen fakes showcased on the SNKRS app, nobody can really tell unless you hold em in your hand with the good fakes.

Exactly so this ain’t breaking no rules

We can have threads, literally a sticky thread, on this site about teenagers drinking and doing/selling d**** but can’t talk about reps lmao?

It’s perfectly fine if you don’t f*** with reps. But plenty of people do and A LOT more people do now than used to. No one forcing you to enter a thread about reps.

thing is the idea that "they look identical", "you're paying just for the brand", "resale market is overpriced" etc. are all valid points but you can't genuinely be into fashion as a culture and be okay with reps. I totally get that if you don't care about fashion beside "looking good" then none of this matters to you.

    Exactly.

    “Reps ruin the culture”

Oh word? The culture of paying some 16 year old $600 for a pair of shoes that he copped with his $2,000 bot and his moms credit card?

Or the culture of paying some mega reseller who gets 100 pairs backdoored to him $600 over retail for a pair? That culture?

F*** the culture. Sneaker/hypebeast community is toxic af now.

that's resale culture, we care about the designers that put effort and time into coming up with these products that we enjoy

of course they are, their thoughts and designs are literally being stolen. As a designer that's probably worst than any financial loss. But like I said, if you just care about "looking good" then for sure none of this will matter to you.

Virgil said he got no problem with reps. When your s*** get repped that’s when you know you made it.

You would have a point if you were talking about a small start up company. Imagine caring about giving your money to these billion dollar businesses.

I mean that's cool if that's how he feels but the majority of designers definitely do not share that same opinion for obvious reasons. If anything though the rules of the section should be written in a sticky thread.

Nobody is saying that resale isn’t bad either. You can be against both, stop promoting this false dichotomy.

Fashion is inherently tied to self expression, i.e. authenticity. There’s little room for fakes in an interest built around that, so it makes sense that moet people ‘hate’ on fakes.

That's fair but most people in general and even the sneaker culture don't care about that. Most of sneaker culture is hype and flexing now. The amount that can name the designer of most shoes is pretty rare. Like with Jordan's they'll acknowledge tinker but when he drops a new shoe with jordan most people don't get it lol, even within retro Jordan's if a colorway comes out but it's massively accessible to people, it become less valuable and for people like that the rep market makes sense. I remember when September blue, Carmines, and maroon 6s were all grail level heat and they redrop as a GR and now nobody wants em like that lol. A lot of times it's less about the shoes and more the exclusivity.

For everyone against fakes, how do you feel about shoes being repainted to look like more expensive models? Like if I buy a basic pair of dunks and personally repaint them to look like supreme dunks or something?

We aren’t talking about taking someone else’s design and stealing the idea and making it your own

    That’s a different thing entirely.

And to your self-expression I would say, I like those shoes and that’s how I wanna express myself but the sneaker game is rigged so bad it’s impossible to get them and the only option is to pay some douche bag with a bot $500 over retail

I have nothing against retail, if I can get a pair of shoes for the retail $160-$200 price I will ALWAYS do that. I would always pay the company the retail price for them before I would buy a rep.

But I will never pay resale for a shoe again. I will always buy a rep before I pay resale.

And we aren’t talking about reps of some local designer or small start up company that’s just trying to make it. We are talking about reps of billion dollar businesses.

Fakes is a factor into why resale and the sneaker culture is in such a bad state rn.

Fakes add into the hype of a shoe which increases demand to a limited supply which means the real deal attracts more scalpers.

Some will see it as corny and others will be fine with it.

Although if you are at the point where you're customising a shoe why not just make something individual instead of replicating another shoe. Would be a lot cooler imo. I bet you can make a star inspired design that's more interesting than the Supreme Dunks.
