i think it's time we actively fight against music critics

what is even the point anymore

if anything, the narratives created can warp how people perceive the music

Music is made to be consumed and people will garner opinions

but having opinions isn't
the same as criticizing

we should have healthy debates

but criticizing art is wrong to me

People want to feel superior over someone else because of their opinion so they desperately seek out others that agree with them to try and add credence to what they think about a subjective art

Journalism at least can provide factual, objective information sometimes. Music criticism is all subjective opinion. Even if you think a technique isn't used well, someone else still liked it. It's all subjective

but a lot of bad songs truly are unlistenable

I would go all the way back to Descartes notion of ‘I think therefore I am’ tbh

We exist because we doubt it, same way art is art because we critique it. If theres nothing to critique, is it really still art?
