And like I literally told you, there's no where to play tapes or CDs anymore. What the f*** is the point of selling tapes out of the trunk of a 1994 Toyota Tercell in 2021 when all niggas have is aux cords and bluetooths nigga?
i have not once said we should sell tapes
lol
we need to expand what we offer physically
it doesn't need to be a cd or tape anymore
we could sell books with the lyrics
we could sell art books
we can do all kinds of stuff
we don't gotta sell the actual music anymore though
because with the age of the internet
post napster etc
it's free as soon as it hits the net
i have not once said we should sell tapes
lol
but i feel we gotta take it back and
start selling s*** out of the trunk again
selling s*** out the trunk was mainly used as tapes. But f*** it, CDs too, they're both the same things in 2021. You do realize macbooks don't have CD ports anymore?

see my post above
i also don't literally mean sell s*** out of the trunk necessarily
the new trunk today is having your own website imo

Why musicians gotta do all this extra s*** though? If a musician just wants to sell their music, they can sell their music
And if what you're saying was the case, then how come Mach Hommy crafted an entire successful underground career out of selling his music online for enormous prices?
because everyone thinks their opinions matter
And now people with trash opinions can go online and feel validated because 4 people agree with them

because people want to support
i'm not saying other people don't wanna support strictly digital s***
i'm not hating on it
people like mach and roc are doing it the right way
they are charging what they feel it's valued at
who would hate on that?
i am simply saying
EYE will not be paying for a digital anything
but i will happily pay for a physical presence

Aight then, just know that YOU are a big contributor to the problem that you've been complaining about this entire thread.
imagine you an actual artist and proudly admitting you don't buy literally anyone else's digital work. that's some loser s*** lol.

i disagree
it's a much larger issue than
the personal choice of some people
what was the last piece of digital art you bought?

jelani sei, a local band from nyc last year off bandcamp.
Started with mysterious music fans wanting to feel superior to people that actually enjoy what they’re listening to

There's a user on here who started a business where you can buy 1-on-1 time with (up and coming, for now) artists, and then hold and sell that time in the future as the artist gets bigger. I really like that idea.
that's awesome
I aint saying I've never downloaded an artist's project (and if I do, it's usually like super mainstream) but if it's underground and I f*** with it, I'll either stream or just buy it. Cause I'd want the same thing to be done for my work.

you don't feel bad downloading the super mainstream album?
doesn't their work deserve your money too?

this is also where i'm going with this point
artists today are selling their time and connection
versus just selling the music
until the infrastructure is truly favorable for artists
i feel this is the way...

if I'm a super fan I'll cop (kendrick, KRIT, Ari, Jamila Woods, etc.), if I don't know and it's just a "flavor of the week" type of thing then I admittedly download.
Like I said, it depends on context. But digital art definitely absolutely does deserve to be priced at whatever the artist chooses to price at. And whether or not you like it, we've seen through countless artists like Knxwledge (who don't have their own website) sustain very admirable careers just off that alone lol.
that's the point i was leading toward
i think it's time we actively fight against music critics
what is even the point anymore
if anything, the narratives created can warp how people perceive the music
it's nasty
especially when the critic isn't writing from a pure space
It lets people put their trust in someone else to sift through all the bullshit to save them the time of having to do it themselves
This Def comes with some bad outcomes but they still serve a purpose

but you realize that you're basically saying
"if i don't f*** with you, i'm not copping your album"
so how can you then take the stance of "digital art definitely absolutely does deserve to be priced at whatever the artist chooses to price at"
all i'm asking is that we keep it real
to me, that says that you do not value all art as you claim
only what you enjoy
which isn't a bad thing
i took the same stance before streaming became a thing
it just is what it is

how is that in any way similar to you saying you don't support any of the art at all?
nobody buys every album that comes out every day. That's never been the case whether it was itunes, or CDs, or tapes, or vinyls, or them record player things that had the thing at the top shaped like a horn. But you still are curious because a project by someone you don't f*** with could encourage you to buy their next project.
That's literally how I got into KRIT and Cole back when they was coming up. And just like I bought KRIT's last album, I'ma cop Cole's next album when it comes out in the next 2 weeks.

i don't support digital art because it is easily accessible
you illegally download albums that you're not sure about
why?
because you can
and that's my point
the reason doesn't matter to me really
