i think everybody is misinterpreting OP

he's not saying teezo is bigger, just that they blew up in a different way

and i think the reason is that they didn't ever get cosigned or acknowledged by mainstream hip hop. tyler is the only one of the top rappers to show them love.

the power of cosigns is so real, its very underrated. but it essentially shapes how people see + value artists.

Their album had Danny Brown, Tyler, Rocky, Peggy

I think that was always their style

is a magazine cover the publisher genuinely wanting to highlight an artist or a label marketing expense?

it is never ever EVER EVER EVER any sort of 'genuine' recognition from publications of this caliber. never in the world, not a single case of that in the recorded history. im not being ironic -- the entirety of it is marketing and label games

what's crazy about brockhampton's fall off is that every other redditcore, fantanocore alt artist from that mid-2010s period is just as popular or even more popular today. it's not like time left those artists behind, they've all been incrementally growing for the past 5-7 years, all of them except for brockhampton. they seriously f***ed up kicking ameer out.

being industry and being popular are not the same

that’s what i’m saying, teezo has a lot of money being put up behind him and had three of the biggest names in the game featuring him and shouting him iut aggressively on social media, interviews with big places. they’re working overtime trying to get teezo poppin

I think RCA (who Brockhampton was also signed to as they were peaking) is just doing a more traditional approach in making him a future star. High profile collaborations (Travis and Tyler also signed to Sony (RCA’s parent)), magazine covers, big interviews. Brockhampton’s charm was that it was DIY and the fandom connected to that. It’s hard to give those guys a mainstream push without it feeling disingenuous.

They’ve been developing him as an artists for a really long time

i forgot about that, they never had a song with tyler, but they did have rocky on that album

but what im talking about is top rappers in the game. tyler is the only mainstream rapper to help them on their come up, and the rocky song came out past their peak.

danny and peggy were never as big as them in their peak. it makes for dope music but it doesn't help with blowing them up.

so in the convo of why teezo's rise is different than brockhampton's, its because teezo was more embraced by the same artist that embraced BH (tyler), along with even bigger cosigns + help from drake and travis. andre 3000 and offset shouted him out on their press runs as well.

because of that, hip hop media and culture as a whole has been more receptive to him. he would surely have a much harder road of gaining awareness on a mainstream level if he wasn't blessed with the OGs helping him out (as they should!)

thats a great point, bh blew up indie first and got a big deal with rca after they were already selling out tours

teezo signed before he blew and was built with his management and the label all at once.

so the process of their careers in general are gonna be different
