But it did exist before that. As did Highlife, characterised by Afro-Cuban guajeo and West African Akan structure.
Afrobeats origins are in the 1920s.
influences and came from are two different things my g, it's a brazillian genre stop reaching and tryna claim everything.
See, I’m Nigerian, so I love to credit Afrobeat with Fela—he in fact coined the name—and I love to discredit Ghanian Fante and early Ghanian Afro Funk.
In fact I am going to continue to do that.
but this was the sound coming out of Jamaica during the 60s, and the movements and ideologies were VERY different. Influence doesn't mean origin. Also doesn't explain dancehall either
Also are u just gonna completely ignore the dub culture attached to reggae and dancehall since the 60s?
Feel like this mostly applies to hardcore hip hop fans.
i mean i'm from uk but I have a few american friends too. i've come to accept for the most part it's ignorance, and a 'we are better than the rest of the world at everything' mentality, which couldn't be any further from the truth. it's not just music it's in pretty much everything else like travelling, cultures, etc. it's sad but not everyone be like that though, just generally the majority
America is better though
OP said this like American hasn't lead the way sonically for years and yall aint spent decades following our musical lead.
Undisputable facts
