I've been seeing this argument for a while from time to time, but it's quite annoying.

For me, if you have to be compared to another great in a way that forces a narrative of you being greater, then that's a problem. Hov doesn't have to be compared to LL or Biggie or Em or Drake and he'd still be revered as a GOAT.

Looking at the list of best selling artists she's nowhere near him:

    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists

I believe Bey is one of the most talented Female artists of the millenium, and one of the GOAT Live Performers, but I feel like the MJ comparisons are unnecessary when she should be God status on her own accord with the clout shes always had in Black America.

The only comparisons I see with MJ is when it comes to performing, and that’s fair.

It’s no force. She is as good at performing. No one argues her music over his but you would be blind or deaf to not see the level of performance she has reached

People compare them when it comes to performing and that’s a very valid conversation. Coachella kinda gave Bey the edge tbh

She’s this generations MJ. Biggest global star crossing multiple genres and making impactful music while putting on great performances with timeless music. Every Beyoncé album released since Sasha Fierce would be 5x plat and otw to diamond if this was the 80s/ Tidal wasn’t a thing

Beyoncé is an extremely popular artist but she is not the biggest star globally. Numbers don’t lie. Can’t use the Tidal excuse imo she’s a strong name but people aren’t consuming her albums on a MJ level.

If not Beyoncé then who? I believe you’re severely understating her popularity and influence over pop culture. She’s literally the only person in the world you can show 10 completely random people a picture of and they’d know who it was immediately

For most Bey fans, it's not really an MJ comparison It's the media trying to push it to tarnish MJ's legacy. We see it with all influential black artists.

They're both two of the greatest live performers of our time tbh.

Up there with Prince and James Brown.

There isn’t an artist on MJ’s level. Beyoncé, Adele, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift are all artists who I’d consider major players on a superstar level but I just don’t think they have a global level of impact that stands up to MJ’s peak

She doesn't sell nearly as much as Bruno, Adele, Taylor. She was one of the best selling artists of the 2000s and had really high numbers in the 2010s as well, but now she's becoming more of a touring act, which makes sense as she's more known for her live performances and visuals than actual music. Look at Lemonade. That was an amazing album, but the visuals and the Jay Z cheating thing overshadowed the actual music other than the singles Formation, Sorry, and Hold Up. And even then, cheating was brought up in Hold Up and Sorry

It gave her a leg in the race tbh I’d never would’ve made the comparison before Beychella I’d put Kanye over her when comparing to MJ but Ye never showcased THAT kind of performance before. All the choreography and still be able to hit notes seamlessly is something I hadn’t seen ever and don’t think I’ll see again from anyone not named Beyoncé at least not on that scale

If we’re talking about MJ comparisons, how much does longevity count in the discussion?

Beyoncé’s star power exceeds her album sales. She might be the biggest

  • Apr 13, 2020

The comparisons are usually always in regards to performance and Beyonce is the greatest performer oat so I don't see why MJ fans would cry about it

Comparing Bruno, Taylor, Adele and Drake to Beyoncé is like comparing Drake, Kendrick, Cole and Travis to Hov. Like yeah it can be done but there’s levels to this s***. Beyoncé already had a careers worth of hits and was already a cultural icon before any of those artists debut album was released and has only gained more cultural relevance since then. Stop it

True, I will also say She's as good at performing as MJ. But even that's arguable at most and not a definite thing of her being better than him.

But now some Beyhive ppl Ive seen on my timeline are trying to say she's bigger than MJ, which is what triggered me tbh.

I know its cool to clown MJ and the pedo allegations and weirdness hurt his brand, but MJs accomplishments become unsung by todays fans bc of it

He made it acceptable for Black Artists to get constant video play and he owned half of Sony's publishing, The Beatles and Eminem's publishing. The level of mogul he was at was some God level s*** that doesn't get praised enough imo.
