in an era where ppl can turn on the tv or computer and listen to an album beyonce still has less sales than mj

Streams and album sales aren’t 1:1 man cmon now😭 it’s pointless to compare sells from previous eras to sells from this era. Anything before 2000 can be compared sells wise, like 2000-2015 is kind of it’s own incomparable lane sells wise and now the streaming era 2016-present. I’m only 23 so can’t really speak to it but I feel like the mid-late 2000s especially were the worst times for Black artists album sales wise

She doesn't sell nearly as much as Bruno, Adele, Taylor. She was one of the best selling artists of the 2000s and had really high numbers in the 2010s as well, but now she's becoming more of a touring act, which makes sense as she's more known for her live performances and visuals than actual music. Look at Lemonade. That was an amazing album, but the visuals and the Jay Z cheating thing overshadowed the actual music other than the singles Formation, Sorry, and Hold Up. And even then, cheating was brought up in Hold Up and Sorry

Reason being is because her music is more female leaning and she is an artist of color. Most of her anthems are consumed by females or gay people of color so obv her sales aren't going to be the same because niggas are not buying her albums because of masculinity and the older white generation aren't either because of the topics she talks about. Bey isn't making pop that is supposed to be consumed by everybody so obv she won't be making those numbers.

Plus Taylor and bruno have constantly been shoved down our throats by radio because they are making general pop. Bey isn't, I don't think she is interested in that anymore

True, I will also say She's as good at performing as MJ. But even that's arguable at most and not a definite thing of her being better than him.

But now some Beyhive ppl Ive seen on my timeline are trying to say she's bigger than MJ, which is what triggered me tbh.

I know its cool to clown MJ and the pedo allegations and weirdness hurt his brand, but MJs accomplishments become unsung by todays fans bc of it

He made it acceptable for Black Artists to get constant video play and he owned half of Sony's publishing, The Beatles and Eminem's publishing. The level of mogul he was at was some God level s*** that doesn't get praised enough imo.

She isn’t bigger or will ever be bigger than MJ. She won’t ever be greater but I honestly don’t even think it’s that close performance wise. I think she is a way better performer. I also think her being a black women is a reason why she doesn’t sell a single much as Adele, etc. Beyoncé has been in the game for 21 years and hasn’t lost a step. She is doing stadiums after 21 years. No other artist can claim that right now. Adele, Bruno, Taylor are all In their prime. Beyoncé has two primes and she can still dominate this decade. Her longevitiy is what garners the comparisons.

She will be in this 30 years and that’s kinda unprecedented being at the top.

Yeah compared to the 80s, I feel like since rap became huge in the 90s and black culture was embraced hugely by black artists, the separation began and they all bundled up into the "urban" category

She’s this generations MJ. Biggest global star crossing multiple genres and making impactful music while putting on great performances with timeless music. Every Beyoncé album released since Sasha Fierce would be 5x plat and otw to diamond if this was the 80s/ Tidal wasn’t a thing

    Not at all.

Beyonce's biggest selling album was Dangerously In Love and that sold 11 Million Worldwide in an era where you could have definitely went Diamond In America easily.

Her other albums usually top off at 8 Millon WW. A solid day for Michael (post 80s) was 8 Million in America and around 20 Million WW for Dangerous and HIStory.

Not saying she's not a big star, but I feel like the legend our Culture has created of Beyonce exaggerates how big she's been. 2000s artists were able to do 10 Millon + and the biggest selling 2000s albums far outsold DIL:

    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_of_the_21st_century

I will give you Beyonce is still one of the biggest touring forces and would be an MJ equivalent on that level though. But in the full spectrum of commercial impact, MJs success is once in a lifetime imo.

I don't think she is craving it as much as Taylor and bruno during album cycles

For most Bey fans, it's not really an MJ comparison It's the media trying to push it to tarnish MJ's legacy. We see it with all influential black artists.

    Good post

Michael Jackson was almost as famous as Jesus Christ of Nazareth

Views outsold Beyoncé’s first week sales in one whole day

I love Bey but noone is comparable to MIchael Jackson

Michael was so good, people stopped being racist to listen to Thriller, he kicked down the door for black artists

There are people in China, India, Japan, Brazil & African that listen to Michael & don’t know who the hell Beyoncé is

Bruno and Taylor be doing the most during album cycles, interviews, performances etc. Bey releases does on mag interview then tours and that's it she does things on her own terms

    Dangerous outsold Bad

MJ the only artist in music history to be selling 12 milli and be labelled a flop in 2001 too

if we’re talking about talent , Kanye is the only logical comparison to MJ

popularity tho, i dont give a f*** about that, popularity makes great rappers release tiktok songs and s*** like I love it

Incredible albums just don’t sell that much anymore, so we’ll never have a legit great album sell as much or be as big as thriller , therefore we’ll never have another MJ

This isnt a good excuse when Whitney Houston has sold far more records while doing a lot less on stage than Beyonce.

MJs success was big despite racism/colorism to where things were made easier for every major Black artist to be included in video airplay slots after him, Beyonce included.

I acknowledge Beyonce is a huge force in her own right and very talented, but I think the Culture tries too hard to compare her to Michael Jackson and this has been going on since he died and everyone kept debating between her and Chris Brown as the next one.
