Iโ€™ve never understood why a large portion of the community follows something that was forced upon them by slave owners and has been used as justification for the murder rape and enslavement of our people.
Also the Bible has been edited so many times why would one trust what itโ€™s saying

You can say this about a lot of things. Let people believe what they want. Also Arenโ€™t you Muslim? Thatโ€™s a pretty hypocritical way to look at Christianity when others look at your religion the same way

I understand your point but I donโ€™t understand why people would follow Christianity given these circumstances

Christianity came from an old sumarian religion

If Christianity gave black ppl the hope they needed to cope with whites beating, murdering, raping, breeding, etc them then more power to Christianity

We just gotta get rid of this white Jesus fella

Real recognize real and white Jesus is hella unfamiliar

โ€œWhen enslaved Africans first arrived in America, some brought religious traditions with them. But the pain of slavery drove many to look for meaning and hope in a new place - the Bible. Although most slaves could not read, biblical stories of salvation and retribution spread like fire.โ€

Christianity wasnโ€™t โ€œforcedโ€ on slaves. It was just taught to them. It was hope

Who does anyone still follow any religion

  • Jul 25, 2020

Did they tell them believe in this or weโ€™ll kill you? Having no other option is different in a sense than being โ€œforcedโ€

Thatโ€™s because they believed voodoo to be devil type things

  • Jul 25, 2020

You could really pick on any religion and ask why do people follow. In the end the morals and motivation to live your life in a positive light is why people still do imo

christianity has a massive history of forced conversion not many people wants to talk about. it's not just black people; tons of europeans, asians/indians, and obviously south americans were forced to convert too. christianity is probably undeniably the most imperialistic religion because of the way it developed; you can argue it's not a core facet of the religion in theory but it has been in practice of the practictioners. this isn't to say forced conversion didn't happen elsewhere...but i mean the like 50 years it happened in a random part of the middle east in a jewish tribe isn't really comparable to the majority of modern classical history.
also a lot of groups advocating forced conversion were reactionary to conversions to begin with; like, modern Hindu Extremism was largely a reaction to forced conversions in India, specifically christianity (although to be fair it also happened separately with Islam in like the 14-15th century).

Separaretly, as I understand @Ari, "forced conversion"/"religious compulsion" is banned by Quranic law right? (see below) do you know why this hasn't been the case historically? this is a genuine question i don't know the answer to, not trying to be a smartass or anything
