christianity has a massive history of forced conversion not many people wants to talk about. it's not just black people; tons of europeans, asians/indians, and obviously south americans were forced to convert too. christianity is probably undeniably the most imperialistic religion because of the way it developed; you can argue it's not a core facet of the religion in theory but it has been in practice of the practictioners. this isn't to say forced conversion didn't happen elsewhere...but i mean the like 50 years it happened in a random part of the middle east in a jewish tribe isn't really comparable to the majority of modern classical history.
also a lot of groups advocating forced conversion were reactionary to conversions to begin with; like, modern Hindu Extremism was largely a reaction to forced conversions in India, specifically christianity (although to be fair it also happened separately with Islam in like the 14-15th century).

Separaretly, as I understand @Ari, "forced conversion"/"religious compulsion" is banned by Quranic law right? (see below) do you know why this hasn't been the case historically? this is a genuine question i don't know the answer to, not trying to be a smartass or anything

The Prophet (PBUH) didnโ€™t write the Quran it was revealed to him by god

Yes but a lot of scolars and imams/hodzas preach that the prophet wrote it which isnt true

The Quran first came about years after he died so who knows if everything written in the quran or hadith were ven his words that came to him by god

The Quran is preserved basically because his companions memorized everything he had said.
Hadiths are way trickier because they came around like 400 years after he passed away

Christianity came from an old sumarian religion

If Christianity gave black ppl the hope they needed to cope with whites beating, murdering, raping, breeding, etc them then more power to Christianity

We just gotta get rid of this white Jesus fella

Real recognize real and white Jesus is hella unfamiliar

Yeah thatโ€™s what I always interpreted it as. They had to have something to cope, so they turned to what was available to them, which explains why it would be so deeply entrenched.

Why does anyone? This question shouldnt just be directed towards black people.

    This is true
I was specifying black people because of how entrenched it is in our communities

to be clear i'm not trying to push an agenda that Islam is a violent religion; I know enough about the religion to know that isn't the case and to know the culture of legal separation and treatment of guests/strangers.
I'm just curious why despite this in parts of history there were forced conversions like the Yemeni Jews, (some of) the Ottoman Empire, and historically in like Pakistan. Is it because they were namely in places with beliefs considered heretical instead of ุฃู‡ู„ ุงู„ูƒุชุงุจโ€Ž? I genuinely don't know a lot on a lot this subject and I'm curious to learn more

This is a great question that I donโ€™t know the answer to.
I will agree that the Ottomans were extremely aggressive and are responsible for the forced conversion of many of the people under their rule

    Kind of a weird question.

People usually stick with the religion that their parents indoctrinated them into, and most people in the US are Christian. Asking "why do black people follow x religion" implies that people are given a choice looking at the pros and cons of religions and choosing which one to adhere to. Their family is Christian, their friends are christian, and there is the possibility you burn in hell for 7000 years if you quit believing. Not much of incentive to think critically imo.

Most Religious people don't critically look at religion anyway. And if they decided to switch religion based on the criteria in OP, why would they even stay religious? Theres no major religion which doesn't have a dubious history or didn't have slave traders in its ranks.
