  • can’t be the only one that notices this, or am I?

People be hating on some of the best 90’s, 00’s & 10’s, hip hop albums in other rap communities just because the s*** ain’t experimental or abstract

These people will really try to convince you that 90’s albums like Funcrusher Plus Blowout Comb, Stress The Extinction Agenda, Dr. Octagon (which are all cool albums,) are better than Ready to Die, Ridin' Dirty, The Infamous, Life After Death, It Was Written, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Ironman, and even on some cases I’ve seen people rank all those albums ahead of Illmatic too. And that albums like Illmatic and Ready to Die, etc. were never top tier albums to begin with when they weren’t even there to witness it.

Rateyourmusic.com is a good example of how this bias is although at times not as extreme as I’ve seen in other places, especially throughout all of hip hop history let alone just the 90’s. In fact, the new school biased Experimental/Abstract stan base might be more delusional than anything on the internet in terms of hip hop stanbases. (Albums like Reasonable Doubt and Ridin Dirty, RD hardly in the top 50 and Ridin Dirty isn’t, Flowerboy surpassed The Infamous, there’s like 6 Kanye albums in the top 30, Death Grips almost has two top 10 albums ever, Atrocity Exhibition is ahead of ATLiens, and Aquemini, no trap albums ranked high, etc.)
They’ll be quick to praise TPAB, MBDTF/Yeezus/TLOP/KSG (pick one Ye album from the 2010’s bonus points if they hate on Graduation), The Money Store, Atrocity Exhibition, Madvillainy, and Some Rap Songs, as the best rap albums of all-time, think Run The Jewels, Brockhampton, and Death Grips are all top 10 or even top 5 hip hop groups of all-time, have Kendrick, DOOM, El-P, Earl, and Danny Brown as their top 5 rappers ever yet they’ll jump down your throat if you think Freddie Gibbs has good projects outside the Madlib collabs, have Mobb Deep, UGK, Nas, Jay Z, B.I.G, Prodigy, Wayne, T.I, Cam’Ron, Beanie, Redman, any Wu Rapper that isn’t Ghost, etc. on your GOAT list.
    It’s beyond me.

Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking Experimental/Abstract/Alternative hip hop at all. As myself I definitely like a few of the albums that I’m “criticizing” in the OP.**
I just feel that some of these fans need to realize that chances are they are ranking certain albums higher than others just because of the fact that they are Experimental and Abstract rather than just looking at the bigger picture and knowing that there are more than just two sub genres in hip hop. A hip hop album doesn’t have to be groundbreaking and thought provoking to be dope.

Discuss this fact. I already made this thread somewhere else before. But I wanna hear more peoples opinions here
