Models aren't supposed to be universally attractive. They're supposed to model clothing and fit the aesthetic that the designer is going with. You literally look at any models these days, they aren't usually conventionally attractive. Most of them have a unique look to them, not just black models. Like this is a model for balenciaga

bro wtf is "conventionally attractive"? there was a time where fat people were considered attractive because it would represent being wealthy, eating good. beauty standards are changing all the time and professional modelling are counting ethnical looking features like crooked/prominent noses on middle eastern people as attractive there is more to this s*** than "yeah bro he looks good" it‘s confidence the way you walk, the way you can pull clothes off and more. there‘s a reason why big booty b****es on IG will never become real models. your definition of being handsome is shaped by male hollywood writers and fitness models. like chris breezy is skinny asf but women love his appearance

The truth is that it depends on the model agency and the brand. Balenciaga's branding is about being post modern, different, experimental therefore they are searching for people who look unconventional. Nike and Adidas look for athletic people. FashionNova for big booty b****es. Most people just don’t get what modelling really is

Yep. OP is talking about fashion houses specifically and they all kinda go after more unconventional looking models. Balenciaga is definitely more extreme with it but most of high fashion go after this look these days.

The models they use look like 1 in a million types of beauty. It's unconventional and high fashion is all about that. Why would they pick a generic face that checks all the boxes. They're gonna pick someone that is eye catching and fits the aesthetic of the fashion line. That's why there is supermodels and there is Instagram models.
