The artist-stan connection is less about relatability and more about ideals. With gays in particular being so marginalized by society, they see their idealized selves in pop divas: the divine and fierce feminine
It’s no different from young men in certain demographics looking up to rappers that represent their own idealized versions of masculinity. Like honestly; how many of us here truly relate to Kanye or Future? Not many, but what they represent is a set of ideals some of us respect and even aspire to in some way
Now of course this relatability and identification overlap but they are still separate
I feel like a lot of LGBTQIA artists dead just make mysterious sad music. Who the f*** want's to listen to that 24/7? If you wanna get amped up and listen to something that talks about embracing sexuality while using male pronouns you'd probably egde towards listening to pop music which is predominantly female
Explain this how the hormones play a part, are you saying they have less Testosterone?
Also don't see this at the same rate with girls or to the point it seems overly exaggerated like they're a caricature
Interested in hearing the answer to this
I listen to Lady Gaga over Makonnen because she makes better music that's why. I doubt anyone would disagree with that.

Made a similar thread in ATRL (predominantly a gay music forum) about this and there was some interesting replies.
It largely boiled down to how relatable the music is from the female perspective and how inferior males are at making music.

I think they love the glamour and provocativeness of the female pop stars. They find it inspiring.

It’s kinda common sense like I totally can understand why most gays will play nicki Minaj before they ever play Frank ocean or ilovemakonnen. And I can’t speak for gays but I’m assuming the aesthetic of hearing a bad b**** artist is more pleasing than hearing it from anyone else. Not really that many male gay artists out that really let it reflect in the music so it’s a lot more options with picking out female artists
I don't see the big deal with stanning women, but some people are insecure about listening to female artists.
