There are production similarities with gods plan because it’s made but Cardo as well but the song structure of LNCL totally weird and not the same as gods plans. Drawn out different chorus. I can see traces of trophies and gods plan but it’s hardly just the same formula as either

Lol @ the reflective classy sounding Gold Roses sounding like Dip Immunity mob boss dinner vibe

I think you can do these loose similarities for any artists but it’s hardly creating the same song. People exaggerate wildly

Every artist that has been putting out music for a good amount of time has songs that sound the same to an extent...I don’t even get this argument

How is lncl chorus more drawn out than God's plan's chorus ?

And obviously people are exaggerating when they say he makes the same song, but ur lying to urself if u say he doesnt have a formula for certain songs, all artists do nothing's wrong w that

I’m starting to realise “sounding the same” is hyperbolic because if at any point you hear LNCL and mistake it for God’s Plan, I worry

What exactly do you mean by sound the same? Production, theme and structure are the same?

Cardo made both, Drake’s theme isn’t the same and the output is irregular

I don’t doubt Drake has vaulted many God’s Plans, but I don’t think LNCL is one

  • Aug 15, 2020

Not only are both of these songs produced by the same person, I'm not the only person that had this sentiment, all the posters above u said they see similarities and if u seen twitter there is a similar opinion going around

  • Aug 15, 2020

Don't you know, if two Drake songs both have horns it means they sound the same

Unless I was misinterpreting what you were saying were you not making the case that his songs sound the same? I’m just curious as to why people critique him specifically. I don’t see this argument often for anyone else.

Ah okay, gotcha. Misread that, my apologies

I think despite sharing a producer, they sound dissimilar structure and theme wise, but that’s to each their own. Depends if you like the songs or not, I guess. I like LNCL but not God’s Plan, so them sounding different is good to me

My confusion is in the conclusion: so what if they sound similar? Twitter uses this as “proof” that he’s become stagnated, despite these songs being 2 years apart and he’s dropped something like War in the meantime. Do you have a similar view?

I think the problem is because they’re not on the same album or in the same era. You can’t fault an artist for having a very cohesive album sound-wise (think any R&B album from the 2000s) but when it’s 2-3 years apart, it feels like an artist is going backwards

Theres a reason why I said "similar to" instead of ".... is the same song as....." it's not even a critique lol I only brought it up cause that's what the thread is about. And I seen it a lot for many artists, travis, carti, cole, ross, dababy, cardi, meg, etc, drake just a bigger artist that's all

I guess I just think it’s a cheap shot because he’s objectively a versatile artist. Yes maybe subject matter can start to blur but I don’t see when people say “all drake songs sound the same” how they can actually listen to his music and say that. Just my opinion though

Personally never heard this criticism for Cole and definitely not for Ross

The rest are too new to even begin to consider escaping their comfort zone, I guess

Last new acts we had actively doing so are unfortunately dead. RIP Pop and X and Peep

Agreed, I think that’s a meme to basically say “I don’t like this artist” in a “constructive” way. Those same people would not support Drake if he completely switched direction. So it’s moot

Really not every artist is Kanye at the end of the day - in that not everyone can suddenly switch their style per album

I 100% agree but people take issue with that for some reason. Sometimes good music is just good music it doesn’t have to be something complex
