Yes. Assuming they were good, they would pay software engineers less. But this doesn't happen. Most people don't want to be software engineers. Same reason why surgeons get paid the most. If everyone became surgeons, they would get paid less, because there would be less demand. This doesn't go for just software engineers, this goes for all highly technical fields that require lots of difficult school

Interesting video. I find it weird how they calculate payroll taxes. Also the sales tax thing is weird. Rich people still pay significantly more money than the rest because of percentages. Also billionares have their wealth in stock, you can't expect them to give their stock to the government.

I'm working as a Social Worker, I've also had to go to university to get my masters degree (and my first finished education was software developer, but I changed course afterwards, so I know how things are run when you work in a company), I assure you I'm not working any less hours than I did before as a programmer.
The work my colleagues and I are doing is saving you as a taxpayer lots of money (even if you'd say my work is payed through taxes), it is helping to keep the society secure and reintegrates people, so they can be a part of it again or they don't become a burden for you.

How in the hell is it fair that we get payed only a tad bit more than the minimum wage or people with basic education depending on where we work at?
My education is also highly specialized, I had to study subjects from various fields such as Social Sciences, Laws, Psychology, Health, Economy, Community Management and for my work I need to associate them with each other and combine the knowledge I have to find solutions for existing social problems (which are always multifactoral and interdisciplinary) in society.

Yes, in our country we get payed by the government.
Also if we go to do projects abroad it's usually either subsidized by the government or partly funded by foundations.

And we are seeing tendencies that a neoliberalistic mentality is trying to seep into our work field, which means that the resources we get to do our work, this includes personel, money and time, tends to get under pressure to be cut down, which will in case take a toll on the quality of our work, which in the end will cost the tax payer more money if the job isn't done correctly and f.e. people can't be reintegrated into society where they can build a self-sustainable lifestyle for example. And this is partways because of the individualization of society and because people try to avoid taxes, which in turn leaves us with less resources to work with, as mentioned above.

I'm just trying to give you a perspective from the other side and why solidarity in this case can be a benefit for all of us.
