literally convenience. both stations only report the most surface-level, bullet-pointed aspects of the news to keep their undiscerning low-information viewers clueless while still allowing those viewers to tell themselves that they pay attention to current events

if you want to actually understand something with nuance you have to put in the effort to read for like 5 minutes

Agreed. I guess since they are a business with a corporate structure, their board members probably do nothing but discuss tactics to attract and retain viewers.

I would assume they must have invested in psychological studies and polling their demographic to find common fears that they could exploit and thus put a spin on narrative that will cause anxiety or panic. The business model for tv news works based off of fear that the viewer needs addressed and an enemy to blame and they enjoy hearing biased key words to feel a part of one side with an objective that will keep them tuned in.

For example the conservative side’s fear and hostility of immigrants from south of the border, the real decision makers at the top of the Republican Party are all about exploiting an immigrant work force for profit but have to feign concern and fear to appease the base that will keep voting their way. Both parties are trash and have to devise clever ways to sell policy that will hurt their own electorate

Fox News is definitely worse and more influential/dangerous (specifically tucker carlson, hannity, ingraham etc.) but at least their ordinary news people like Bret Baier seem competent
