Exactly, so why jump into a field you might not enjoy just because you think it makes money? You can have a degree in the arts and flip it into a whole career that’s not necessarily related to that specific degree.
A degree matters, but the person behind matters more. Speaking for myself, outside of the first couple interviews right after I graduated nobody was asking me what I majored in while in school. My work experience and my ability to adapt and improvise was more important.
This ..
I'm a damn a***yst and I have a psychology degree with a average GPA. Before that I was a hr rep. I'm just good at working.
If you show you can succeed at whatever you do people will take chances on you
Im in fine arts, starting my last semester next fall, Im sure when im in my death bed I’ll still consider it the worst mistake of my life. Its one that legitimately depresses me
A liberal arts degree from Harvard is more valuable than a finance degree from (Insert State) State University
Lol really depends
It’s a actual question I have my cousin is
Bout to graduate college
but she has a degree in Some European folklore studies or something,
nice things to learn but how does that even help ??
Do y’all not have a complete idea what u want to
With ur life and just wanted to have the crazy college dorm experience
If I could go back I would do a bullshit degree for 20x less work and 10x more fun tbh than my stem degree.

What would you want instead

He wants to know why people get liberal arts degrees.
Liberal arts is cool if you know what you wanna do with it
I think if you do it just to do it then you might be disappointed
What would you want instead
I was told by a professor that the program was an atelier based program but it literally couldnt be any different lmfao. Just a bunch of applying paint mindlessly to cater to the professors’ obsession with conceptual painting and 20th century expressionist ideals. I dont have anything against these styles and movements but thats not what I wanted to do, and thats not what I was shown I would be doing in the major. No room for creativity and no room for technical learning, so what the f*** is the point. I kept telling myself I already took out too much in loans to just quit, but thats the sunk cost fallacy at work for ya.

just pick up another major and stay in school for a couple more years if your finances allow you to do so

Nah, Im pretty done with academia tbh. Only have a semester left, Im just gonna work off my debts and hopefully make some money making art on the side
I’m in school studying social work.
It’s something I’m passionate about but those salaries
I low key want to switch to something that makes more money as a career to help people but I Feel like I’m too deep to switch it now
People will say it’s cause it’s sometning they enjoy doing and I agree with that but also if you’ve decide to major in feminist dance theory or something that has less opportunities for work don’t complain when you can’t find a good job

My sister did the same. She had really low salary prospects out of her bachelors so she went back to school and got her masters. Her first job she only made 37K a year but she recently just got a job paying 52K. Not much compared to big degrees but big for social work imo
If you 100% know what to do in life, you don't even need college
Yeah, I want to practice medicine... let me just go to the library and study. Dumb ass f*** ass lil boy
Because its an area of study they're interested in. It's not that deep
Other people maybe underestimating the course load or just think that its an easy degree to obtain. However, they're probably just interested in that field and not thinking about job prospects.
Not everyone is suitable for STEM either. Stop pushing this meme, we deadass do not need half of these people wasting time and money for a STEM degree.
We also don't need people who aren't serious pursuing a degree in fields like gender studies.
Who even majors solely as Gender Studies. These people need to double major so they can acquire a set of useful skills to undergo research in a setting.
This is the problem with people in college. If you major in Gender Studies then major in Sociology and have a above average understanding of statistical a***ysis. This will only help you
People wonder what the Gender Studies meme is about. It's about having a major that only really works when compounded with another as your only sole major.
What the hell are you going to do with just philosophers on every corner?

Yikes
