Subtitles distort the work more than dubs. Your mind's eye cannot read words and take in the entire visual palette at the same time. It's a constant switching from one to the other.

When it comes to anime, the voice acting is annoying anyway. That's part of the reason I prefer manga- especially when it comes to female characters.

Japanese voice actors usually always put on a better performance then the English dub
