It’s typically close enough that they can understand each other. Think of it more like different accents and different colloquialisms instead of different languages.

That’s why you’ll still see two different breads of dogs having full conversations with each other.

There’s also different education levels within species which can sometimes interfere, but usually the smarter ones can come down to the appropriate reading level of their colleague to still be able to talk normally

I mean it depends on your definition of language, like chomskys definition would exclude anyone other than humans for example
