i think it also jus is some c***shit like i did see a musical with black cast once an i fw it
Usually I find songwriting that's full of exposition to be corny and annoying. I'd rather just watch people work through situations with dialogue instead of singing at each other.
I do love Bob Fosse's work (especially All That Jazz), Singin' in the Rain and La La Land though.
I’ve enjoyed some musicals but idk I feel like most musicals don’t actually really want to do anything interesting artistically
do you feel the same about Film in general?
or do you think that because a musical is such an out-there concept, they have a bigger obligation to step outside the box? go hard or go home type of thing
Music and comedy have gone hand in hand for thousands of years
I guess 🤷♂️
I mean there's rappers that do cheesy musical skits on SNL that sound decent cause they're actual rappers at least

nah i love filmmaking but yeah unconsciously i think i do have that expectation with musicals just the way you described
i try not to say all musicals are bad but it is hard for them to grab me

i can’t stand the acting a lot of the time. in my experience , acting tends to be a bit too over the top. i think so that the sudden singing isn’t as surprising maybe since their voice is already in a certain place? idk but i don’t like it very much
also why don’t they ever throw a nice moog or a f***ing 808 kick in there every now and again i’m sick of musicals with nothing but strings and horns
Most people’s engagement with musicals on here or in general come from memes of Hamilton, Mary Poppins or Wicked so it’s just extremely limited scope and not to be taken too seriously
Mostly the music
I like music
I like movies
dont need to see them combined
love my grandma
love strippers
same deal
can't act like i've been exposed to a ton but the general "show tunes" style is one of my least favorite kinds of music
i'm more open to musicals with a different kind of music. lots of Indian movies do it really well and I enjoy that music and the way they integrate the music/dance scenes way more

Yeah I've attempted alot of old school musicals and always end up turning them off
This was amazing though;

Cabin In The Sky
All these years and you still don't trust me
you really want me to force myself through another dust gem im not ready for and see me give it a 1 star or something

It's not so much that I think you're ready for this dusty a film as it's I know you're already listening to music this dusty. There's a church scene with peak gospel vibes
I can’t help but feel second hand embarrassment
I dislike the ones that evince "theater kid energy". The classic ones don't have that vibe. Not sure when it switched up tbh. Glee?
Also, Cats Don't Dance 🔥🔥🔥
