Why do experimental (or even underground) artists like Billy Woods, Ka, Death Grips, whoever else is in between, get dismissed as “white people music” (?) I never really understood where this mentality came from. Even popular artists that might step outside of a traditional hip-hop box like Kanye’s Yeezus or even Kendrick’s TPAB as an example, it’s commonly cited as “critic bait” or music for white people. I’ve seen it with Tyler The Creator a couple of times as well.
Another point I see around artists like this is that the hood/streets aren’t playing it. Why do people use the streets/hood as some sort of qualifier as to whether or not the music is meaningful, good, or “not-white-people-music” (?)
only closed minded people who are mad their favorite artists don’t get the same attention do this
At least in the context of critic bait,
People say that when they feel an album is made with the typical publications and awards committee in mind. As if the album was made for metacritic and pitchfork acclaim, as opposed to the fans.
Not that I agree, but I don’t think that one is race based
I've seen people say MF Doom is "white people" music too which is funny because he'll often thrown in Five Percenter slang in many of his raps lol.
He is probably is "scaring the hoes" music though ngl.

Good points here
You know the reason @op.
I don’t know if I think of woods as an experimental musician Armand Hammer is a different story entirely. Ka I don’t think of as experimental either, they just don’t ever dumb it down. Which is admirable and what others should aspire to - “not dumbing it down” looks different for each artist though, not saying everyone has to do that by trying to be woods or ka or boldy
Cause it's funny
I hope no one actually thinks the music should be dismissed that way

Art hoes love MF DOOM
Death Grips too tbh, perhaps “scaring the hoes” does not refer to the artistic subspecies of the hoe.

Listen here, scooter, let her try to bag you
When she's on the rag never let her fry the Ragu
Which will have you under some type of spell crying dag-boo
Her name on your back in a tattoo
White people music = name dropping Rastafari practice

Weird sense of humor

Though it's kind of understandable to group Death Grips with that lot, but still ignorant. They're a bit different than other traditional rappers because they're also a rock band with a math rock drummer in Zach Hill and they initially got popular on music forums, fantano and 4chan, but the lyrics Ride says are mostly about black experiences
Weird sense of humor
Do you think that because you have an Igor avi or cause youre a sgp stan?
