I don't really care about it because ultimately they end up just promoting dude and I don't think Drake cares but I did notice even gay people making gay jokes about Drake. It's weird

    It's normalized/internalized homophobia

Similar to when the black community would clown people for 'acting white', and associating speaking proper as a white trait.

Wish I came itt earlier but it’s because we’ve always emasculated Drake for being a lightskin man in the macho hiphop space who’s whole thing was being the antithesis of that. Being lightskin is already attributed to a lack of masculinity in the black community (hence why lightskin women are also more desired for their femininity unfortunately, and why any major respected lightskin rapper you can think of is also a street rapper). So Drake being Drake on top of it is just the cherry on top

Hell even something as seemingly innocuous as calling Drake a ‘popstar’ to minimize him as a rapper has always stemmed from this

This s*** is internalized and I don’t think anyone committing it is conscious of it. Sadly that’s how the pervasiveness of stereotypes work

Why do you think mainstream Hollywood - the reflection of society’s collective fantasies - have a noticeable lack of lightskin A-list leading black men? Because society’s collective fantasy of the ideal black man is the most traditional masculine one: overtly adult and/or sexually appealing, tough, and symbolized by being a darker skinned man - which lacking alone is enough to disqualify a black actor from fitting the bill

It’s not a coincidence that the creative space in which we do see lightskin black men become A-listers is the one that actually reflects society instead of its fantasies, and even then it’s only either when they’re street rappers to make up for the lack of ideal black masculinity (as touched on before), or in a genre like pop or r&b that’s already coded feminine so it’s acceptable

I mean I’m here for the trends because ultimately it promotes the songs/album, but if people think the whole “drake was zesty talking to 21” thing is actually funny… I have news for them

What does being feminine or girly have to do with being gay?? Sounds like you’re assuming.. maybe you’re the homophobic one.

Honestly when I meet a feminine guy I don’t assume anything about his sexuality. I just respect him for being himself.

Prince, Dennis Rodman, Bad Bunny, Drake type energy is peak masculinity because they do care what people think.

I honestly would rather someone say they're homophobic than tiptoe around it. I'll never speak to that person again and that, to me, is realised peace

I don't have time for you to willfully act dumb.

Drake being called sassy/feminine/girly in addition to memes saying he slept with 21 going viral simultaneously is because of the public being the ones still asserting homophobic rhetoric (that a man being feminine in any form means he is automatically gay)
