that diaspora wars s*** is f***ed up
I be seeing that s*** on the TikTok and it confuses the f*** out of me. Of course as Africans we gotta have dialogues amongst ourselves and address issues but these niggas be fighting each other over the dumbest s*** but have no smoke for the white man
I don’t have that much of a accent anymore it’s pretty subtle but I remember when I first came here and people would make fun of how I spoke, limited English etc but when I would call them out or press them they would act like victims
I was born and raised in the states, but I did highschool in Nigeria. So I have a pretty decent grasp of both perspectives. I do think the whole “Africans sold us” narrative that is being pushed lately is ridiculous though. There use to be a few posters on this site that would parrot that s*** too.
@op you’re not wrong, in fact more people are starting to check each other on this type of stuff now
i wouldn’t say that its ignored though, its just not taken as seriously and it should be
colorism/racism is a thing that affects anyone, even for ethnic/racial minorities towards each other

Yea whenever I hear people say that I just ignore it just shows me you’re historically illiterate
This thread reminded me of this thread I seen on Twitter the other day. Shorty said “how come Africans never came to help us during slavery? How come they never came to help us during Civil Rights Movement?” It’s a whole ass thread, imma see if I can find it. It’s so f***ing stupid
Tale as old as time
But do you honestly believe that if you started going in on them for being a yankee that anyone would care that much either way?

Little do they know there were multiple attempts to push out European colonists and enslavers despite these regions subsequently being occupied and even Africans being enslaved and exploited by Europeans while still living on the continent. Historical illiteracy there’s no excuse for it.
Cesar Chavez used to denigrate migrant workers and called them “wetbacks” and rejected them from his union for a very long time and used to get undocumented ppl deported
It’s a f***ed up logic which makes the “Americanized” see themselves as superior to their non-assimilated counterparts

Yea I’ve heard stories of people who worked with him basically saying he was a b****
I think it’s just cuz of the power dynamics in society as a whole, so non-white on non-white attacks don’t get taken as seriously since that group isn’t shown as historically being the “oppressor” tbh if that makes sense. Sort of like how it’s more acceptable in society to punch down on men, straight people.
That and in general the history between AA and Africans w/ slavery and the disapora adds in another layer of complexity so you probably have a bunch of ignorance and a genuine lack of education as well that could lead to that
Not excusing it but i don’t have a solid answer for accountability outside of just learning and interacting with other Africans tbh, we can’t help what brought us to x,y,z but we can do our best to sympathize and show empathy with them.
Prejudice is still bad and should be called out and worked on within all communities. Systemic gets more attention because it comes from a place of power.

Love that last part you added in. People fail to realize to that just because you was hear longer than the immigrants doesn’t mean the white man wants you here either
