Never got this vibe from him.
But it's likely a personal preference on how he wants his songs.

No lol.
Lmao brehs stretching out the truth. I can understand if you believe that QM was assisting him but to say a whole team of writers
I can't listen to Cole for this reason, he's so boring, has no swag or charisma.
Yes if I want some cool wordplay then a few songs might do it, but other than that....
I've tried too guys, I really have.
Who are you?
Nah. Drake's sound from 2011-2015 still sounds fresh.
None of drakes music from 2013-2016 sound fresh
None of drakes music from 2013-2016 sound fresh
Disagree cause that was still his prime.
Bro don’t make this into another Aubrey thread lol. We just here to discuss why J Coles beats/music don’t hit like it should.
Drake got a team of writers?
Of course not niggas just be saying s*** on here Dude probably thinks Party wrote 4pm in Calabasas or Majid Jordan wrote No Friends In The Industry. No evidence or nothing just all in his head

it's moreso to do with his voice @op
It's the reason KOD was kind of a misfire. You'd think that with the attempt to be like soundcloud rap that it would be a lot more umph.
For example compare this
to this (this was why people got hyped over Off Season, ppl was talkin bout "he's rappin rappin now" all over the internet after this dropped)
it's more presence there, you can hear the highs in his voice more, it's not as 'flat sounding,' and it's just more energy. And I think that last point is why the songs "sound flat" is cause the energy wasn't always there.
I don't know if that made sense tho.
The thing that people always critiqued about his albums versus the mixtapes (and why 2014 FHD was always looked at his best album was finding the balance) was you could legit hear the hunger. It's all in the voice/mic presence.

Sounds ok to me tho personally
idk the man but he seems competitive. when he's in the studio with other artists he goes a lot harder. when it's just him the songs feel bland and lifeless
I loved Off Season but i havent revisited it since the first month of release. It doesnt captivate me long enough but he deffo rapping his ass off
I know exactly what you mean. It sounds bland like something's missing in the Beats
he's trying not to bother us

a good not boring rapper
Maybe he need legit producers like Kanye or swizz or dre or Pharrell or Timberlands for his beat.
Timbaland was in his latest album
Half of the responses in this thread doesn't even understand what OP is talking about. He's talking about mixing and niggas in here talking about his rapping/delivery. typical ktt

Can't really say it's more energy in the off season song. He's just emphasizing syllables. His delivery comes across also kinda sloppy compared to ATM imo.

This popped into my head as soon as I read the title
And its not just because of the piano and the fact that it's a slower beat. The drums just sound really flat and like they don't hit as hard as they should
Kanye and Jai Paul have some of the best hitting drums imo and J Cole is like the opposite of them on most songs. Neighborz and Hiiipower are an exception though, he spazzed on those
Of course
You probably think that the producers and sample credits are writers like dumbass akademiks stans
