As a Kendrick fan I think there is no excuse, it's open hypocrisy plain and simple.
He's ultimately just a nigga with a good pen and like any other nigga(me included), he has his moral blindspots and hypocritical views and his celebrity, platform, and triple entendres doesn't change that. I hate when people contort themselves to try and maintain some sanitized view of their favorite artists.
but this is what the Morale album is about lol Kendrick said it himself already. They just tryna look for the “i gotcha” moment and there isn’t one
all that said though kodak does have a weird case and i think kendrick could’ve illustrated the exact same point w someone like 21 or NBA Youngboy or something. rich interlude is an amazing song but that’s as deep as it goes when it comes to kodak actually contributing to the narrative and themes of the album. the project is so openly about abuse that black people suffer at the hands of racism, misogyny and warped ideas of masculinity and to have kodak be one of the narrators for ur album and only have him as a touchpoint for the “i made it out the hood” narrative instead of those issues that he’s allegedly been a perpetrator of or party to still feels weird to me. idk
ik op said no stan wars but the fact that drake didn’t address this at all was one of the biggest fumbles in the beef
This is a good post.
I always thought that that aspect of the album was a bit underdeveloped, even if the album overall is amazing.
I don't really think that Spotify should have the free range to do so
Ding ding ding, that onus should best fall on the consumer, not the platform, unless the platform is private then in that case they can do whatever they want
Word
And honestly I'd say even if the platform is private they shouldn't do that because again, it's definitely gonna be a whole lotta acts and bands that they won't remove despite doing the same nasty s*** as an R Kelly. Or the wild and violent s*** of an XXXTentacion or King Von, because I'm sure Burzum and S***Pistols are still up and chillin on there.

yall gon see early grave with your brains tuned this way
Because it was a rap beef he was going after drake, it wasnt meant to be what you're describing. Think ya be forgetting this sometimes
You have to use this same perspective with literally any director/screenwriter that participates in creating art with heavy themes then
i do. you can write a horrible character as long your narrative doesn't advocate them. when your messaging as an individual is muddled by your own (in)actions and the character you're playing in your art then people have a right to critique that.

I feel like Youngboy woulda contributed to a more meaningful song collaboration, but who knows what his goal was with something like Silent Hill or if there was even one and he didn’t just like the song
Because Kendrick is probably a normal guy who wants to get along with the people around him when he isn't playing some image up to sell records
it’d be a good vantage point for a loser maybe but kendrick has always said what he thinks, never felt the need to hide behind a character or a narrative. bro opens the song talking about how he’s sick of b****es i really doubt any of that track is how he’s really feeling
don't think our speculating of how he thinks does any good if he hasn't ever been at full disclosure about any of this. agree to disagree.

So you watch horror movies and think the writers enjoy killing?
yo why is jadakiss as hard as it gets? why is the industry designed to keep the artist in debt? and why them dudes aint ridin if they part of your set? and why they never get it poppin but they party to death?
Why did bush knock down the towers
Basic engagement with the art you consume leading to a nuanced interpretation, instead of just looking at the surface, does not constitute “mental illness” or even mental gymnastics.
This was a very tasteless post
Damn, tastefully cooked him
So you watch horror movies and think the writers enjoy killing?
either u trolling or your comprehension is baffling. idk how u jumped to that conclusion

yea let’s agree to disagree when he makes it almost explicitly clear by going to the lengths of crafting a whole narrative for one song on the album only and playing a toxic pos nigga on purpose and having that guy spout stupid s*** and all signs of Kendrick’s morals and character irl point toward that not being the case 🫱🏾🫲🏻
glad we came to this understanding king

we don't disagree he played a character. we disagree on the intention. you acting like ur in his head and being caustic about how we perceive said art isn't doing you any favors.

Ironic
Ironic
haven't really jumped to anything and uve just asked me leading questions, but okay sure.

How is it any different from working with Dr Luke if not worse?
How is it any different from working with Dr Luke if not worse?
If you made luke the focal point of a flawed man and what trauma made him so damaged, sure
