“ooh but the mix”.jpg is crazy when you’re conflating the mixing with the mastering

I’m not conflating the mixing with the mastering. I know what the difference is.

The mix on MBDTF is not good either is my point

Great album but one of the worst things to happen to hip hop. Many of the cultures problems today can be traced back to MBDTF

Mans is comparing Songs In The Key Of Life to MBDTF

I just said it’s the hip hop equivalent to it. That’s not a crazy take but since you disagree what would be that in your opinion?

Honestly, I’ll always cherish my first listen of MBDTF and witnessing the lead up to it releasing. It really was one of those “you had to be there in real time to get it” eras. It was and still a classic that moved mountains.

With that said, I still do find it difficult to put MBDTF in my top 3 Ye albums even with how great it is. LR, 808s, Grad are just very special albums to me and they’re my personal favorite eras from him.

    Roar.

All you're doing is rephrasing s*** Kanye said over a decade ago to promote Yeezus and cast his new album in a positive light. The album doesn't sound the way you describe it. It's a profoundly human and likably flawed record that could only have been made by him and the artists he hand-picked to elevate the material. There are no other MBDTFs in music history, as hard as others have tried.

In 2009-2010, when Kanye was running something between a bootcamp and a cult compound in Hawaii, he wasn't telling those artists "lock in or the critics will be mad at me." He wanted to create a work of art that captured what he felt at the time and cemented his legacy.

    Like...every artist ever.

MBDTF gets criticized for being ambitious and having unlimited resources, which isn't inherently a bad thing. We should be grateful that one of the GOATs wanted to make a classic. "Tryhard" has always been one of the most braindead critcisms of art and is more a sign of the times than anything.

Kanye was hating on MBDTF to promote wyoming not yeezus

Definition of overrated but you had to be there to understand why niggas was flipping out.

once you realize the cheat code: strings + some 90s breakbeat + random vocal chop randomly pressed throughout the beat

The era loses its magic fast.

Wouldn’t expect such a nearly anti-rap take out of you

If samples and instruments lose their magic, what doesn’t?

My b, I just knew it was part of a rollout

It's a classic artist move: trash your old stuff to make your new s*** sound more appealing. I always take it with a grain of salt

I don’t disagree with you tho, had to keep my beloved yeezus out the crossfire…

Keep in mind that most people who bring that quote to arguments still care about his personal opinions and parrot them. Which says a lot
