True asf bro Im tryna write my own songs at the moment and i kinda struggle with it sometimes
Just take a piece of one of those 4 and rotate like a pair of shoes
The weeknd tried and look at him
Lot of yall starting to turn into R&B Boomers/Old heads.
@op posting one of the singers literally responsible for this birth of this kind of style of singing proves yall don’t really know what yall talkin bout.
That type of R&B still exists. And the genre’s barely mainstream for yall to hit me with the “nOt In ThE mAiNsTrEaM” excuse.
Not stanning but when HOB came out, this type of R&B almost phased out immediately
Because we're living in dark times where mental health issues have skyrocketed and the youth is depressed. Supply and demand.
There is a clear societal gap between today and early 2000's.
Hopefully this s*** turns tho, cuz a lot of songs in @op are fire
I find a lot r&b recently is actually pretty soulful recently with more organic textures and instruments
this rings more true for mid 2010s when we had more trap sound which was more popular
Yeah if anything theres been too much struggle neo soul
Because being a dark RnB edglord that can sing makes the big bucks
can you gimme some examples of artists that you would consider dark RnB edglords?

Able Testify is a pretty good example
6lack?
Tank embodies what you’re describing
beyonce too
Along with brandy
Basically real vocalists that are primarily traditional in their approach to RnB.
This generation is farrrr removed from the sound though so it’s gone for good on a mainstream level.m
Raveena bringing it back
Probably the closest a modern artist has come to bringing this sound back
Aside from the heavy influence of dark R&B, I think it isn’t prevalent because nobody has found a way to update the sound for modern times without making it sound like a trap song. Boo’d Up is probably one of the better examples of it but it’s few and far between.
